Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The Director will be responsible for the overall planning, development, implementation, management and evaluation of the Opportunity Scholars Program.
Required Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Student Personnel Services or related field and 5 years related experience, or bachelor’s degree and 7 years related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of the policies & procedures that affect OSP. Knowledge of the basic principles & theories of student development & educational administration. Knowledge of academic administration, program planning, & social service delivery systems. Knowledge of college admissions procedures, including a thorough understanding of student financial aid & procedures. Ability to supervise & evaluate personnel. Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and the general public.

Monitor the academic progress of participants, including transfer students, and work with the financial aid staff to ensure that program participants receive adequate financial support. Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff. Provide orientation & training to OSP staff & students. Ensure that each staff member has the required skills to perform effectively.

Develop & recommend specific short & long-term goals & objectives for project programming & service development. Implement appropriate workshops & cultural activities for program participants. Develop grant proposals that supplement OSP resources. Work with local media to promote activities of OSP. Award programs for students & staff recognition. Supervise supplemental classes & tutoring. Serve as an academic advisor to program participants. Establish, maintain, and monitor official program records systems and ensure that all staff maintain required student tracking records. Conduct and analyze multiple student surveys. Develop effective, professional, and responsive programs to meet student needs. Assess graduation portfolios to ensure students meet transfer requirements.

Work with campus community to develop policies that enhance the success of eligible students. Seek additional resources from public & private sources. Establish & maintain positive relationships with various institutions & agencies to facilitate cooperation in the delivery of services. Maintain active advisory board.

Establishes periodic progress reports to assure results are monitored and corrective action applied to maintain acceptable results. Prepares a wide variety of materials (reports, analyses, recommendations, procedures, etc.) for the purposes of documenting activities and issues, meeting compliance requirements, making presentations and providing supporting materials for requested actions. Compiles data from a wide variety of sources for the purpose of analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with federal guidelines. Participates oin management team meetings to stay abreast of activities of other departments and campus initiatives. Supervise seven staff employees.
