Purpose

Supervise Working Professional Career Education and Coaching staff and champion strategic goals for career education, coaching and job search assistance to guide students in meeting their job search goals.

Responsibilities

TALENT MANAGEMENT:

  • Directly supervise 4 FTE (Career and Talent Development Consultants). Nurture, retain and grow the professional development of each team members. Shadow and coach staff for advising and instruction. Benchmark and provide the latest resources for staff on professional development for advising and coaching.

STRATEGY AND INNOVATION:

  • Identify ways we can enhance the career management experience every academic year, including ways to improve programming, our Canvas site, and career tools. Supporting the scaling of experienced hire strategy across the WP team.

CAREER EDUCATION PROGRAMMING:

  • Manage career programming and education for WP students across Evening, Houston, DFW, Executive MBA and MSTC Programs. Lead enhancements and deployment of the 15hr interactive WP career curriculum across the first year of each students' MBA lifecycle.
  • Teach workshops as needed. Benchmark industry best practices and assess new opportunities for improvement in how we educate students on navigating their careers.

CAREER CONSULTING:

  • Train the team on career consulting best practices. Shadow and coach staff for advising and instruction.
  • Provide career advising as needed, and support team in handling difficult student situations/circumstances.
  • Benchmark and provide the latest resources for staff on professional development for advising and coaching.
  • Research self-assessment and other tools for students for use in coaching.
  • Manage the advising system and help the career consultant team understand more strategically how to manage their coaching load through group sessions and career fellows.

OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS:

  • Manage budget for the team. Support evaluation and implementation of new vendors for use in WP programs.
  • Evaluate use of existing vendors each year for continuation of purchase. Assist Managing Director with internal operations and budget.
  • Assist Senior Director in assessing current advising and instruction systems/data/metrics and developing recommendations for improving metrics and process.
  • Manage reporting on student activity and career performance.

EMPLOYER AND ALUMNI RELATIONS:

  • Partner with the Employer and Alumni Engagement team and the Alumni Career Management to build a strong ecosystem of alumni/employers who are interested in supporting our students' career journeys via experienced hire/just-in-time processes.
  • Identify new ways to leverage our alumni to support career education & coaching programming efforts and help scale high-touch connections.

ADMISSIONS AND MARKETING:

  • Foster a strong partnership with Admissions and support the admissions strategy with data analytics and storytelling on student career performance and success across industry sectors.
  • Coordinate with Admissions on student issues related to success in the career search.

COMMUNICATIONS AND CROSS-FUNCTIONAL PARTNERSHIPS:

  • Serve as communications lead to the WP students for Career Management Team, and with MPO, MSTC program, Employer and Alumni Engagement, Recruitment Operations, Business Development, McCombs+, Student Experience, and Admissions for calendaring, event planning and scheduling.


Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in business, education, or a related field (relevant work experience can substitute); minimum of 5 years work experience in an MBA specific industry (e.g., finance, consulting, marketing, operations) or relevant experience in career coaching/advising, outplacement, recruiting for these industries.
  • A strong desire to work with WP students and knowledge of various career fields for MBA and MSTC graduates.
  • Experienced leader with a proven track record of success in leadership positions within complex, multi-constituent, fast-paced, and mission-driven organizations.
  • Extensive experience in career and/or leadership coaching, curriculum strategy and innovation, and leading teams.
  • Effective developer of people who can manage a talented and passionate team and portfolio of projects and issues and rapidly assess situations with multiple outcomes and consequences.
  • Flexible problem-solver with the ability to create structured quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate difficult and complex matters effectively to a range of audiences and skill levels.
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, flexibility, and ability to work under pressure in a variety of contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Teams, Zoom and/or other remote communication technologies as well as webinars.
  • Highly proficient with spreadsheet and presentation software required (MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel)
  • Model transformational leadership by providing vision and outside-in perspectives, functional expertise, outstanding service and collaboration, and effective organizational and strategic acumen in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and social emotional intelligence skills.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of leading teams, 10+ years of experience in career development, career education and coaching, and business planning in the higher education or corporate sector.
  • Proven success in innovation and creativity in career education and curriculum design for MBA and/or MSTC students, incorporating of varying learning styles.
  • Clear interest in and/or understanding of higher education ecosystem and culture.
  • Strong analytical background or work experiences.
  • Proven success in supporting MBA and/or MSTC students/talent.
  • Entrepreneurial leader who can form alignment around the pursuit of important goals or the response to substantial challenges; apply strong organizational, leadership, and management skills in order to be an effective agent of change to enhance our team and school’s mission.
  • Familiarity with Handshake,12Twenty or other career services management systems


Salary Range

  • $80,000 + depending on qualifications


Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions with repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
  • Regular weekday hours required. Monday - Friday work hours will flex accordingly and may require evening or weekend availability.
  • This is an Austin, TX-based position and is eligible for hybrid work
