The College seeks a Director of Student Engagement. This position reports to the Dean of the Honors College. The College is committed to inclusive excellence and particularly welcomes applicants with experience building learning environments where diverse life experiences and perspectives are valued, community members learn with and from each other, and all individuals can thrive.
Duties and Responsibilities
Service and Leadership: Serves as member of the Honors College leadership team. Works with the dean and associate/assistant deans to provide strategic leadership. Participates in college committee work and represents the Honors College on university committees, as appropriate.
Programming and Events: Supports the development and implementation of all co-curricular programs offered to 1,200 JMU Honors College students. This includes staff-led programming, student-led programming, and major Honors College events.
Student Leadership Development: Serves as faculty advisor for Honors student organizations (Madison Honors Leadership Council and Honors Program Board).
Assessment: Works with the Honors team to develop and implement assessment protocols for co-curricular programs with the expressed purpose of measuring attainment of objectives and program improvement. Assesment should ascertain needs, participation, and accomplishment of learning objectives. Assessment results should inform resource allocation and program improvement.
Campus Partnerships: Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with campus partners. Frequent partners include the Office of Residence Life, the Office of Orientation and Transition, and Undergraduate Admissions.
Recruitment and New Student Onboarding: Serves as primary point of contact for prospective and incoming students. Hosts recruitment and yield events and manages Honors Ambassadors program. Coordinates Honors experiences during Orientation and Weeks of Welcome.
Supervision: Directly supervises a Presidential Engagement Fellow, one or more graduate assistants, and student employees.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the needs of the college.
Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with previous work experience in a higher education programming setting, or a similar environment.
  • Experience supporting student development.
  • Record of commitment to inclusive excellence.
  • Assessment or program evaluation experience.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience supervising full-time employees or student employees.
  • Demonstrated success in collaboration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a variety of constituents.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
