Position Information


Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Gillings Advancement offers a variety of services to facilitate the School’s research, teaching and service mission, promoting the development of public health policy, publicizing School activites and public health issues, and generating financial support from alumni, foundations, corporations and the NC Legislature. The office also coordinates special events.
Position Summary
As we culminate the eight-year Campaign For Carolina, transition under new school leadership and experience a number of staff departures, it is the opportune time to look more deeply into the operational efficiency, board structure, staff resource allocation and readiness for the next campaign. The temporary Director of Strategic Planning will assess operational efficiency, review and lead hiring efforts for advancement leadership positions, review the volunteer board structure, and lead strategic planning efforts for future campaign readiness.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Previous experience in leadership role within a higher ed institution. Experience with advancement fundraising.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Prefer a candidate with leadership experience at UNC Chapel Hill.
