The University of Pittsburgh requests applications for the position of Director of Strategic Communications. The individual will be a member of the department's strategic communications staff and report to the Associate Athletic Director of Strategic Communications. Requirements include experience in a collegiate or professional media relations environment, outstanding oral and written communications skills, demonstrated organizational skills, and working knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Word, NCAA LiveStats, and The Automated Scorebook.



Job Summary

Performs a variety of editorial duties (e.g., laying out, indexing, proofreading, and revising content of written materials) in preparation for final publication for multiple complex projects adhering to style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements. Prepares, rewrites, and edits copy for multiple moderately complex projects for internal and external publication. Oversees publication production and assists with prospective manuscript work. Identifies subjects, interviews sources, and writes articles.   


Essential Functions 

Serving as the media contact for women’s basketball as well as the primary media contact for 1 additional Olympic sport programs. Producing media guides, game notes, news releases and feature stories. Generating feature content, video, and other unique coverage for PittsburghPanthers.com, the official website of Pitt Athletics, and H2P Magazine. Responding to media requests. Staffing home and selected away events. Supervising statistical crews and other event support personnel. Developing and implementing comprehensive social media plans for women’s basketball and 1 additional program. Compiling statistics, researching historical records for Pitt department of athletics publications, and assisting the media relations staff with additional duties. Serve on Athletic Department committees as representative from Strategic Communications department. Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight of Assistant Director level staff and student intern program. Ability in creative content space (graphics, photography, videography) are a plus.


Physical Effort 

Mostly sedentary. Individual will be required to walk and stand at events and games.
