Job Description

The Director of Small Business and Community Initiatives will support the SecureAmerica Institute (SAI) within the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES), a member of the Texas A&M University System. The Director will build relationships and lead engagement with potential strategic industry, government, and academic partners to support the goals of TEES and SAI. Brings strategic and subject matter expertise and leadership to shape vision and strategy for delivery of small business and community initiatives. Independently organizes and manages complex multi-disciplinary projects. Establishes research goals and objectives and develops plans for successful achievement. Independently applies advanced knowledge of research or engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Represents the project/programs in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work. Provides liaison to Texas A&M University System affiliated State Agencies. Interfaces with internal and external domain leads and subject matter experts, including faculty, government partners and executive leadership to support the goals of TEES and SAI. Matrixes project management expertise across the TEES Department of Defense (DoD) portfolio as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategic initiatives, including the establishment and growth of lines of business practice in small business programs and ecosystem development.

  • Identify and cultivate specific companies, industry groupings, and government and university partners to match with strategic research and development initiatives.

  • Develop and direct small business and community initiatives.

  • Oversee development, scheduling, and execution programs and projects using project management mastery techniques.

  • Guide project plans and track budgets, timelines, and deliverables.

  • Oversee periodic evaluations of and reports on project status to external stakeholders and internal senior leadership.

  • Participate in strategic planning and play a critical role in the development of business opportunities that further the objectives of SAI and TEES.

  • Prepare proposals and presentations.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education:

  • Ph D degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Experience:

  • Twelve years of related experience.  

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in Cyber Security operations directly related to workforce development as related to secure and resilient manufacturing.

  • Program and project management mastery and extensive experience in managing large-scale multidisciplinary research projects in applied industry settings.

  • Demonstrated positive and productive working relationships with diverse teams, handling time sensitive material, and the ability to work with high-profile individuals to include media as required.

  • Experience in curriculum development supporting instructor led and web-based courses.

  • Direct experience and interface with TAMUS State Agencies.
