The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California (USC) and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) in the Department of Pediatrics in the Division of Hospital Medicine, are actively seeking a full time faculty member for the position of Professor of Clinical Pediatrics.

Description: The Director of Research for Hospital Medicine at CHLA reports to the Division Chief of Division of Hospital Medicine (DHM) and works with other members of DHM to establish the division’s research agenda, promote and facilitate research within the division, and provide mentorship and faculty development for scholarly activity. The director will interact with interdisciplinary researchers and physician scientists, to fund, design, and carry out medical research. Opportunities exist within the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles organization to collaborate on hospital-wide initiatives as well.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • MD or MD/PhD preferred. PhD candidates also considered with clinically-oriented background
    • For MD-only candidates should have additional research training (e.g.,  research masters training)
    • PhD candidates also considered with clinically-oriented background
  • Experience commensurate at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level. Assistant Professor with research experience may be considered, with promotion opportunities planned.
  • Training in education, clinical, quality improvement and outcomes research methodology with a history of extramural funded research program in topics related to the care of hospitalized children
  • Successful track record in mentoring junior faculty and trainees
  • Experience in leadership and management of a research team
  • Successful track record of grant funding (K award and/or R-series desired)

The annual base salary range for this position is $158,177-$517,500.  When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
