Position Description
Advertised Job Summary | Under general supervision of the CEC Assistant Dean of Research Enhancement and Operations, the Director of Research Operations provides project management for CEC research initiatives, supports CEC faculty in development of proposals, uses research analytics to enhance the research portfolio of CEC with external sponsors, prepares status reports and provides updates to project stakeholders. Responsible for the development, coordination and delivery of trainings and workshops for CEC faculty research development and competitiveness enhancement. |

Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5 years experience in oversight of contracts and grant administration activities. |
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s Degree in a related field and 5 years of experience. Certified Research Administrator credential from Research Administrators Certification Council. Experience in a University environment preferred. Actively involved in professional development organizations related to the research administration field. Examples of these include NCURA, SRA, NORDP, etc. |
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities | Knowledge of the administrative management practices of the USC Office of Sponsored Awards Management. Knowledge of contractual and grant monitoring procedures. Experience with research proposal development to external federal and state agencies, such as FASTLANE, NIH, grants.gov and other federal proposal processing systems. Current knowledge of regulations, changes and trends within the field of university research administration. Ability to review and assess complex grants and contracts. Ability to direct subordinate personnel. Excellent ability to read, write and speak English, and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, and staff. Must exercise a high level of confidentiality and professionalism, exhibiting an exemplary level of customer service. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment to include Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. |
Job Duties
Job Duty | Oversees the Research proposal development process for compliance. Ensures compliance with both Sponsoring agency and USC Policy. Negotiates cost-share agreements with faculty, Department Chairs, ADR and VPR. Liaison with Sponsored Awards Management (SAM), Office of Research Enhancement and Operations, and external sponsors. Stays abreast of current directives within federal funding agencies and University policies. |
