Director of Research and Policy Analysis - Georgetown Climate Center - Georgetown University Law Center

The Georgetown Climate Center (GCC) - based at Georgetown University Law Center - seeks to advance effective climate policies in the United States–policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help communities adapt to climate change. For nearly 15 years, the Center has worked at the nexus of state and federal climate and energy policy to inform federal policies with the lessons of state and local communities and to serve as a resource to the states and local governments we serve.

Job Overview

The Georgetown University Law Center is currently seeking a dynamic Director of Research and Policy Analysis - a key member of our GCC leadership team - to oversee our extensive body of technical and policy research and analysis on climate mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Workplan and Budget Management
  • Research & Analysis Leadership and Production
  • Outreach, Stakeholder Engagement & Facilitation
  • Fundraising and Grant Reporting
  • Student Engagement

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting report to the Executive Director, the Director of Research and Analyst works closely with other Center directors, and interacts with senior local, state, federal and Tribal officials; faculty and Georgetown senior administration; other academics; outside partners (e.g., senior representatives of NGOs); funders; the media; and students.

As well, they oversee the strategic direction of GCC’s technical analysis, supervise advanced research and writing projects, lead multi-stakeholder convenings, ensure the delivery of quality work products, and supervise the work of consultants and student research assistants, and potentially full-time staff.

This position has been designated as Hybrid. Requirements and Qualifications

  • Graduate degree or relevant experience in a field of climate change or energy science or policy required – preference for a PhD
  • At least 7 years of experience in environmental law and policy, including climate change mitigation or adaptation
  • Excellent research and speaking skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, project management skills, writing and editing skills, professionalism, and sound judgment
  • Substantive expertise on one or more aspects of transportation, climate change or energy research and analysis - e.g. , environmental justice, infrastructure planning, energy systems, transportation systems, or land use.
  • Experience working for, with, or on matters related to U.S. state, local, federal or Tribal governments and their roles in climate change mitigation or adaptation
  • Demonstrable experience fundraising and managing complex projects
  • Experience supervising junior analysts
  • Professional judgment to represent GCC in interactions with senior local, state, federal and Tribal officials and other stakeholders.
