The College of Arts + Sciences Recruiting Office collaborates with the College of Arts and Science's Executive Dean, senior College leadership, faculty and staff, and current students and alumni, as well as a wide array of other campus partners, to develop and implement strategies for attracting students to the College's programs of study. The College's paramount goal is to recruit students from a variety of diverse backgrounds who are academically outstanding.

The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest academic unit at Indiana University Bloomington. It is composed of 40+ departments, 50+ Centers, Programs, and Institutes, while also including the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design, the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, and The Media School.  

Faculty in the College teach over 50% of the Indiana University (Bloomington) credit hours and the College occupies about 1.3 million square feet of space in 80+ buildings on the Bloomington campus.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and manages a comprehensive strategic plan for all facets of undergraduate recruiting in the College of Arts and Sciences, including its divisions, departments, and programs.
  • Performs analyses to define recruiting targets and approaches and defines and tracks appropriate metrics to assess goals and to revise strategies and practices.
  • Develops, implements, and manages operations and processes for carrying out the strategic plan for undergraduate recruiting, including managing budgets and staff.
  • Represents the College internally and externally and develops communications related to recruiting in conjunction with the College's overall communications and marketing plan.
  • Hires, trains, and manages a team of 5 full-time equivalents, made up of both full-time and part-time recruiting staff. Sets staff priorities and deploys staff resources in accordance with the objectives of the College's strategic recruiting plan. Supervises and evaluates staff according to well-defined metrics, working with staff to adjust performance or workloads as needed.
  • Manages budgets for undergraduate recruiting and related scholarships. Develops and implements procedures and award criteria for recruiting scholarships that are designed to maximize yield in terms of the desired number and composition of students based on ability, demographics, and other target criteria. Coordinates with the College's Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs (OUAA) to define and carry out the centralized administration of scholarship awarding and monitoring. Implements appropriate processes and timelines for the College's Direct Admit Program, working with OUAA to ensure a seamless matriculation of each year's incoming DA class into the College during the summer.
  • Partners with other senior staff in the College's newly formed Academic Engagement and Student Experience Team to develop and execute collaborative initiatives that provide highly coordinated and collaborative student support services, creating a cohesive, seamless experience for all College students that spans recruiting and admissions, academic advising, career services, and international programs. Coordinates with the administration of the College's constituent schools to strike a balance between consistency and customization of recruiting goals and practices.
  • Collaborates with campus partners (e.g., Office of Admissions, Office of Scholarships, Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Hudson and Holland Scholars Program, Hutton Honors College) to develop and execute initiatives that meet individual and shared goals. Liaises with College administration, faculty, staff, students, and alumni to gather and convey information relevant to all aspects of recruiting. Participates in national, regional, and state organizations and meetings relevant to the core functions of the position.
  • Represents the College at internal and external functions, venues, and committees related to recruiting, admissions, and scholarships and/or identifies alternate or additional representatives, including students, alumni, academic advisors, and career services staff.

General Responsibilities

  • Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define admissions and recruitment methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority admissions and recruitment projects/initiatives.
  • Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase admissions and recruitment initiatives.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
  • Manages high level assignments and allocation of admissions and recruitment resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale admissions and recruitment projects with a wide audiences in support of academic initiatives.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry admissions and recruitment standards, technologies, policies, and procedures; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
  • Works collaboratively with other admissions and recruitment leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
  • Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to admissions and recruitment.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in business, public policy, or related field.  

Preferred

  • Master's degree in higher education or liberal arts field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 4 years in admissions, enrollment management, higher education student affairs, business, or related field
  • 1 year of management experience in relevant field

Preferred

  • 5 years of experience in higher education administration, admissions, or another field related to enrollment management

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Ability to travel, including out of state travel, is also required.

$80,000-85,000 annualized salary
