Department Summary | The Caruth Police Institute (CPI) was created by an innovative partnership between the Dallas Police Department and the University of North Texas at Dallas in 2008. The University of North Texas System and the main campus of the University of North Texas at Denton provided support, and an affiliated relationship with the University of Texas at Dallas, which offers a doctoral program in criminology as well as assistance with research projects, is maintained. CPI was funded with an initial grant of $9.5 million from the Communities Foundation of Texas, and initially focused on fulfilling the complex research, career advancement, and leadership development needs of the Dallas Police Department. This puts the Dallas Police Department in the unique position of being a national resource for innovative and evidence-based strategies in policing. This first-of-its-kind venture signifies a bold new relationship between academia and major police departments characterized by cutting-edge research, education, and leadership development services. Today, CPI serves law enforcement and public safety agencies throughout North Texas, offering customized leadership courses, seminars, and research design. |
Position Overview | The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Director of Professional Development. Under general direction of the Chief Operations Officer of the Caruth Police Institute, the Director of Professional Development will assist in implementing professional development opportunities in policing, law enforcement, and criminal justice. The Director of Professional Development is also responsible for developing new curriculum as necessary to further the mission of the institute. In addition, the Director of Professional Development will also manage outreach efforts to facilitate new client opportunities to promote the growth of the institute as well as facilitate and enhance communication with CPI alumni. |

Job Duties
o | Manages and coordinates day-to-day and long-term programmatic processes to include program planning, development, implementation and evaluation in order to ensure the smooth and efficient operations of the Caruth Police Institute at UNT Dallas. |

o | Plan and organize workshops, seminars, and programming in policing, law enforcement, and criminal justice. |
---|
o | Recommends program guidelines, procedures, policies, rules and regulations to COO and Executive Director. |
---|
o | Interprets policies, rules and regulations and ensures they are followed. |
---|
o | Evaluates program issues and problems and implements solutions. |
---|
o | Prepares and reviews reports on the effectiveness of program activities. |
---|
o | Plans, schedules and facilitates programs/events, including identifying subject matter experts, program site selection, program materials, program preparation, program marketing and administrative support. |
---|
o | Manages staff and/or resources to provide specific program or service offerings to internal or external stakeholders. |
---|
o | Provides on-going professional development to CPI clients. |
---|
o | Manages professional development budget as well budget forecasting each year. |
---|
o | Creates curriculum for original presentations and delivers presentations to CPI clients. |

o | Plans and schedules the Professional Development calendar. |

o | Assesses courses to determine their long-term impact. |

o | Develops and manages CPI Staff Professional Development. |

o | Develop, coordinate, and create program materials for CPI programs. |

o | Manage outreach efforts to develop new client opportunities to expand the growth of the institute. |

o | Develop and maintain course instructor lists; seek new instructors as necessary to meet the needs of the institute. |

o | Develop, monitor, and report program and course survey results. |
---|
o | Create and maintain a CPI Alumni Association and develop methods for increasing alumni communication (Ex: newsletter, surveys, events). |

o | Monitor internal program calendar and coordinate with website administrator for program events, course schedule, and news updates. |

o | Strategize new ways to enhance website content (Ex: Monthly “alumni spotlight”, library access, educational leadership articles.) |

o | Maintain library catalogue. |

o | Assist with creating and developing marketing materials for CPI programs. |
---|
o | Other duties as assigned. |
