About the Department of Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital of the University of Illinois is home to >120 faculty, 39 Pediatric Residents, 16 Med/Peds Residents, 14 Fellows, and a growing, nationally ranked pediatric research program. Each year, our faculty receive more than $10 million in research grants. The Partnership for Pediatric Care encompassing the inpatient units at Children's Hospital of the University of Illinois (CHUI) and Cook County Health includes more than 110 beds (16 pediatric intensive care, 24 step-down, and 70 neonatal intensive care unit). Designations include Level III NICU, PCCC (critical care), EDAP (emergency room), and Burn and Trauma (CCH). The Partnership for Pediatric Care provides convenient access to outpatient services at more than 30 locations including Mile Square Federally Qualified Health Centers and Cook County Health clinics. Each year, the Partnership for Pediatric Care serves more than 100,000 children with nearly 230,000 visits. The Department of Pediatrics has the primary leadership role in the child health enterprise across UI Health.

Description:
The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Director of Primary Care and Technology-Based Mental Health Research Projects to join out team. This position is responsible for the oversight and implementation of objectives, tasks, and milestones for all components of two parallel depression prevention research studies: the Path to Purpose (P2P) and Pathway research studies. Both are free, voluntary programs for teenagers who want to improve their mood and learn coping skills to manage difficult situations. Both studies are clinical trials that will determine how best to help teens build healthy lifestyles and prevent feeling down.

• Work closely with the principal investigators to oversee the studies and help plan future studies. This includes taking on oversight functions for the investigators, one of whom is a department chair.
• Manage operations related to research ethics related activities including preparation of IRB and DSMB related documents, reports, and materials.
• Prepare reports for funding agencies including PCORI and NIMH.
• Assist principal investigators in overseeing safety of participants.
• Responsible for the smooth operation of the study on a day-to-day basis, interacting within investigators, support staff, clinicians, stakeholder's etc. to ensure timely completion of project timelines and goals.
• Oversight of completion of goals, milestones and tasks as outlined in the project milestones plan by actively assuming responsibility for components of the research necessary for its timely completion.
• Lead efforts to monitor and report progress and outcomes for the project to principal investigator and other project members, track progress against milestones and project plans.
• Lead study team efforts for communication of information and opportunities for discussion and problem-solving by coordinating regular study team meeting and other meetings as needed.
• Engage stakeholders, including research collaborators, other study team members, community advisory board members and participants to collect and communicate research requirements, and set expectations for research related work.
• Oversee disability cultural literacy training, supervision, and associated policies/procedures to maximize diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and enable staff/collaborators to respond in a culturally responsive way to diverse staff, participant, and stakeholder needs.
• Facilitate partnerships across various research sites/entities, including investigators, clinical teams, computer app designers, and external collaborators.
• Oversight of recruitment, screening, and tracking study subjects
• Collaborate with Project Investigators to coordinate data collection measures and protocols.
• Participate in the development, implementation, and ongoing functioning of the project tracking systems.
• Recruit, supervise, and evaluate project staff.
• Perform other job-related duties as required.
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in social science or related field required. PhD preferred.
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LCP), or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) preferred.
• A minimum of five years of professional level research experience required, including experience directing complex clinical research project(s) and experience managing complex multi-site clinical trial(s), including recruitment and interaction with sub-sites.
• Knowledge of NIH and PCORI funding mechanisms and reporting requirements.
• Knowledge with IRB processes and compliance.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage large projects independently.
