Summary

The Director of Operations will report to the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country. The Director of Operations will be responsible for administering all of the year-round activities and operations of the women's and men's Track and Field and Cross Country program. The Director's responsibilities are restricted and defined by NCAA and Big Ten rules and guidelines and University policies. This position will work cooperatively with student-athletes, coaches, and athletic department staff.


Responsibilities*
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the track & field/cross country programs
  • Assist the head coaches with the development of competition schedules
  • Schedule and participate in staff meetings and arrange meetings with departments and external groups
  • Liaison with athletic department units including, Sport Administration, Academic Success Program, Compliance Services Office, Business Office, Event Team, Travel Office, and External Relations
  • Assist in the development of sport budgets, and oversee all expenditures and contractual agreements as it pertains to the track & field and cross country programs
  • Work with facility managers for building maintenance, signage and displays
  • Manage all aspects of team travel and assist with recruiting travel 
  • Coordinate all communication with program staff and student-athletes
  • Oversee student managers 
  • Assist with administrative duties and organization of recruiting activities as allowed per NCAA rules 
  • Oversee ordering, inventory and distribution of team equipment and apparel
  • Supervise support staff and student managers
  • Coordinate the collection, cataloging and use of all sport video archives
  • Coordinate occasional team meals, annual team and individual awards, team banquets, alumni events and activities, and all program special events
  • Develop and execute plan for year-round community service projects through the External Relations office
  • Coordinate Team and Individual Awards
  • Coordinate nominations for athletic and scholar achievement awards
  • Home meet management:  Assist Event Management Meet Director with all home meets 
  • Maintains compliance with regards to all NCAA, Big Ten, and university rules and regulations.
  • Other administrative duties assigned by the head coaches. 
  • This position may transition into a coaching position with off-campus recruiting responsibilities in the future.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Excellent computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Experience working in a fast pace, complex environment in intercollegiate athletics or related fields.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills including the ability to prioritize and complete tasks by established deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within Michigan Athletics and the University community.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours including travel to away competitions.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience as a collegiate track and field/cross country athlete, coach, or administrator
  • Bachelor's degree with concentration in Business or Administration
  • Experience working in athletics or related fast paced, complex field
  • Experience working with Teamworks Compliance and Recruiting Software
