About the Opportunity

Khoury College of Computer Sciences continues to grow rapidly in all areas including student enrollments, staff, faculty and research. Over the past seven years, the College footprint has expanded from one building to six on the main campus and an additional seven regional campuses (San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Vancouver, Oakland, Portland and Arlington) and an eighth campus pending in Miami. With college plans to expand the campus network beyond graduate programs to include research and undergraduate programs, the complexity of space needs has increased significantly. On the Boston campus, the University is facing major space constraints and colleges are having to address space pressures very creatively and nimbly. The successful candidate will be a strategic and creative thinker, who will partner with the Dean on the ever-changing College operational and facility needs.


Responsibilities:
 

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Administration and Finance, the Director of Operations and Space Planning will lead strategic space planning for the College across the Northeastern campus network. The position will partner with University Space Planning to advocate for Khoury’s needs and stay afoot of fluid university space plans. Lead the multi-year space planning efforts for submission to Provost office.

The Director will manage the Assistant Director of Operations and will oversee all space-related needs ensuring that labs, offices, conference rooms are fully functional and that faculty are receiving optimal support for their research. Will manage daily space operations, special events, renovation projects, and space allocation. They will partner closely with all faculty, staff, and administrators within the College as well as across the University.

They must have excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and communication skills. They will be charged with developing and overseeing projects that impact the success of the College as well as help maintain the security and welfare of our faculty, staff, students, and visitors.  Must possess exceptional space negotiation skills, be able to partner with colleagues at all levels, and work successfully within a complex, decentralized university matrix. Must be comfortable in a fast paced and fluid environment


Qualifications:

  • Must possess a minimum of 5-8 years of experience in space planning and operations, preferably in higher education and experience interacting with faculty. Master's degree in Project Management or a related field.
  • Successful candidate will have exceptional interpersonal, written, communication, and organizational skills as well as a strong aptitude for problem solving.
  • Successful candidate will have strong communication skills and be artful in space negotiations.
  • Must have experience working with stakeholders at all levels across an organization.
  • Must have excellent briefing skills and highly proficient at analyzing complex problems and presenting thoughtful and clear solutions.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to troubleshoot and handle high-pressure situations.
  • They will have experience supervising staff, planning strategically and making effective decisions under pressure.
  • The candidate will enjoy working in a friendly and fast paced environment and being a team player.
  • They will consistently focus on the big picture and the overall operational needs of the college to sustain the growth that is expected over the next five to ten years. A sense of humor is a must.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, especially Excel and Word required.
