Director of Music Technology and Commercial Music

The University of Missouri School of Music invites applications for a full-time position as Director of Music Technology and Commercial Music. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead and develop innovative curricula at the intersection of music technology and commercial music, fostering creative excellence, and empowering the next generation of musicians. We are seeking a highly accomplished candidate with professional experience in one or more of the following areas associated with commercial music: music/audio production and engineering; songwriting; live sound engineering; film and media scoring; music technology and production software development; music licensing and publishing; and sound design.

In this role, the successful candidate will collaborate with our faculty and staff to design and implement a forward-thinking curriculum related to music technology and commercial music, as appropriate to the School’s needs. Another key responsibility is the management and maintenance of our state-of-the-art recording and music production facilities, ensuring they are current and accessible for students and faculty.

The successful candidate may also teach coursework based on their strengths and school needs, which may include music technology, audio production, and related courses, as well as student mentoring and advising. Moreover, the successful candidate will maintain an active profile as an audio engineer and industry professional while demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence. The ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community partners is expected.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Music by time of appointment.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

• Demonstrated expertise in music technology, audio production, and commercial music.
• Teaching experience and mentoring students in higher education.
• A portfolio of creative work in the field of music technology and commercial music.
• Strong connections to the music industry and a commitment to providing students with real-world experiences.
• Familiarity with industry-standard software and hardware used in music production and technology.
• Experience in curriculum development and program administration.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
