Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Director of Multi Disciplinary Programs supports the College of Veterinary Medicine's instructional mission by managing the support and technical assistance needed during labs within the first three years, ensuring appropriate use and allocation of a portion of the Academic Affairs budget, and serves as the immediate supervisor of a team of approximately 10 staff. Core Responsibilities: Supervises staff and performs all administrative functions associated with this leadership role, including budget management, staff evaluations, etc.; Manages support and technical assistance for assigned labs, including lab support for the first 3 years of the veterinary curriculum; coordinates with the ACE veterinarians to support on-campus herds and animals; Coordinate and supervise the administrative support for the Animal Instructor Program; Serves as a liaison between faculty, staff, and students regarding laboratory coordination, delivery, and instruction. Work with IACUC and USDA teams to ensure compliance with live animal use protocols. Be familiar with Virginia state and veterinary pharmacy laws, including intake and dispensing controlled and non-controlled substances. Determine lecture and laboratory class space assignments; schedule and provide student instructional support as needed. Establish and implement short and long-range Multi Disciplinary Experience goals, objectives, and procedures; monitor and evaluate operational effectiveness, and implement changes required for improvement; manage the clinical skills lab (CSL). Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Licensed veterinary technician (LVT) credentials; Previous supervisory experience; Previous experience in preparing and managing budgets; Working knowledge of biomedical laboratory operations over a range of disciplines; Experience using computer programs including Microsoft office tools and inventory and scheduling software; Previous experience working in an academic setting; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a veterinary or medical laboratory; Managerial and finance training; Previous experience teaching and/or providing laboratory support are highly desirable.


Salary Information

Salary; Starting at $80,000; commensurate with experience
