Job Description:

The Director of the Math Center at Bellarmine University is responsible for the leadership and administration of the Math Center, ensuring its effective operation and providing support for students and faculty for math and math intensive courses. This role requires strong academic, administrative, and leadership skills and a passion for fostering student success and facilitating academic growth in math. This position will report to the Associate Dean, College of Arts & Sciences. This is a full-time, 12-month position to begin June 2024.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in the scheduling and implementation of math placement testing for incoming students.
  • Support students in completing foundational math competency before or during the students' first semester.
  • Identify and address the specific needs of students and develop appropriate resources and programs to assist them.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to create and execute initiatives that enhance the learning experience in mathematics.
  • Work closely with math faculty and Academic Services to improve and expand the academic support offerings of the Math Center.
  • In collaboration with Academic Services, design, develop, and implement workshops, study groups, and other educational programs to support student success.
  • Work with SSC-Academic Services to provide subject-specific pedagogical development for peer tutors.
  • Create and maintain a resource library of academic materials related to mathematics.
  • Establish metrics and assessment tools to measure the effectiveness and impact of the Math Center.
  • Promote the Math Center to the university community.
  • Engage in professional development, including ongoing research on best practices and attending relevant conferences.
  • Responsibilities may include teaching one service math course as needed.


Requirements:

  • A master's or doctoral degree in mathematics.
  • Previous teaching experience at the college level is preferred.
  • Experience as a math tutor is helpful.
  • Strong understanding of the academic needs of students in mathematics.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and data analysis tools.
