The Director for International Programs is a member of the College of Arts and Sciences Academic Engagement and Student Experience Team responsible for setting and implementing the shared vision and goals for the undergraduate student experience. 

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Manages the current and expanding portfolio of student exchanges, internationalization-at-home programs, and other cross-cultural learning opportunities for students.
  • Serves as a liaison to other offices on campus responsible for facilitating education abroad and other cross-cultural opportunities, including the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs and all of its constituent offices.
  • Works to promote student engagement in high-impact international experiential learning opportunities.
  • Serves as the in-house resource for College leadership and faculty on international activities at IU.
  • Provides administrative leadership, management of day-to-day activities, and direct student support for existing College student exchanges, international internships, and other relevant student programming. 
  • Administers the recruitment, selection, preparation, and support, including academic advising, of international exchange students, both inbound and outbound. 
  • Devises and implements administrative protocols in the implementation of study abroad programs, in accordance with IU and College policies.
  • Designs, implements, and expands, in coordination with relevant units within the College, a portfolio of international partnerships aligned with the strategic priorities of the College and IU Bloomington 2030, for the purpose of expanding student exchanges, internship and other cross-cultural learning opportunities for students. 
  • Completes annual assessments of existing partnerships on renewals, extensions, or cessation.
  • Within the broader vision for the integrated undergraduate experience, promotes and enhances College efforts to provide experiential international learning at-scale to all undergraduate students. 
  • Identifies and removes barriers that limit College student participation in centrally administered study abroad opportunities. 
  • Manages College scholarships for study abroad. 
  • Facilitates the College's virtual education abroad programs and internationalization-at-home programs and serves as liaison to the Education Abroad office.  

General Responsibilities

  • Implements the organization's strategic vision and direction by developing, initiating, and/or supporting new programs and services, creating annual work plans, and operating within a board-approved balanced budget.
  • Ensures the maintenance of effective office management, financial management, record-keeping, and equipment and software.
  • Plans, directs, and implements programs or events, including developing branding strategy and targeting audiences for these events.
  • Oversees or represents the program in communications to program participants, supporting institutions, collaborators in other units, community partners, vendors and the public.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues and programs.
  • Provides mechanisms, training, and advice on a variety of issues such as budget management software and advanced strategies for timely spending of grant funds.
  • Oversees research and academic activities budgets for programs. 
  • Identifies funding requirements and funding sources to ensure adequate resources to sustain program goals. 
  • Leads grant writing.
  • Evaluates the performance of lower-level staff, recommends development and performance plans, promotions and disciplinary action and is accountable for consistent administration of university policies.
  • Keeps abreast of best practices to create and implement policies and procedures that deliver a quality program experience.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree (in discipline related to social sciences, humanities, international studies, or language studies strongly preferred)

Preferred

  • Master's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 5 years in related field

Preferred

  • 7 years of programmatic and administrative experience in education
  • Experience in a student-focused, higher education environment is highly desirable
  • Administrative or student services experience
  • Financial/budgetary management experience

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. $75,000 - $80,000 per year, paid monthly
