Director of Information Technology

POSITION SUMMARY:
Serve as a member of the ACES Technology Services (ATS) leadership team, comprised of IT offices in all academic departments and administrative units in ACES. Oversee the efficient and effective coordination and management of college-wide information technology services related to network operations, desktop support, instructional support, server, and database administration, web application and development, and IT resource and budget planning for the College of ACES. Serve as the College's Chief Information Officer (CIO).
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership

  • Provide college-wide strategic leadership to the College of ACES for information technology services for research, instructional, outreach, and administrative computing.
  • Work closely with the Dean, Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, Department Heads and Directors to align IT services with the mission and strategic goals of the college and its units. Provide input and feedback to ACES leadership and contribute to strategic initiatives.
  • As a member of the ACES Technology Services (ATS) leadership team, emphasize the importance of managing and supporting shared resources, operational transparency, and innovation. Encourage collaboration across departmental boundaries to provide exceptional services and support to ACES faculty, staff, students, research partners, and state-wide Extension customers.
  • Implement a coordinated process in recruitment, development, promotion, retention, and organization of IT professionals within ACES.
  • Create communication, collaboration and coordination processes that build consensus, and transparency to effectively execute goals and policies that further the values of ACES.
  • Direct and continuously adjust organizational resource allocations to align with strategic goals and unit service requirements, including but not limited to developing, tracking, and managing the annual operating and capital budgets for ACES IT.
  • Identify strategic information technology initiatives. Communicate the initiative and provide directions to IT professionals and constituents to accomplish the established programmatic strategic initiatives.
  • Write reports, formal documents, recommendations, and strategic plans targeted at the College and Campus leadership, as well as broader constituency groups at all levels of campus.
  • Gather and evaluate metrics on the organization's performance and communicate with staff and stakeholders.
  • Build and sustain collaborative partnerships between the College and other IT leaders and Campus. Represent ACES on internal and external technology governance committees.

Operations
  • Supervise and manage ATS technical staff for ACES Administration IT support
  • Promote the use of current best practices for the support of mission critical services.
  • Promote quality IT security practices within the College.
  • Coordinate with units on the evaluation, requisition, purchasing, and support of College-wide IT services and software licenses
  • Coordinate with Technology Services, Administrative Information Technology Services (AITS), ATS, and other IT organizations across the University on current and potential future shared service offerings.
  • Oversee the strategic plan for structured programming for web development and provide direction for enhancements to the College of ACES' website.
  • Provide administrative support project management, and technical expertise for web hosting and and/or application development for the College of ACES online presence.
  • Manage and guide web development projects in concert with the Office of Marketing Communications needs and recommendations to support the College of ACES, departments, and administrative teams.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude and understanding of IT best practices
  • Eight years of experience with one or more aspects of information technology including at least 5 years of IT management experience and 2 years developing, coordinating, and/or implementing shared or partnered IT services.
  • Demonstrated success developing partnerships and effective collaborations with individuals and units that cross organizational and/or institutional boundaries.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience providing customer service.
  • Experience participating in and leading diverse workgroups. Experience handling incident management in complex IT environments.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets.
  • Experience leading project management activities.
  • Demonstrated leadership in building teams and IT solutions.

Preferred:
  • Master's degree in computer science, information technology or related field
  • Demonstrated experience managing technical professionals engaged in both operational and project-based activities
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more components of web services; hosting, server administration, web architecture, web development, web content creation, analytics and SEO, and/or web design.(?)
  • Demonstrated experience in leading large, complex IT projects from idea to implementation, including stakeholder management and communication

Training, Licenses, or Certifications
Preferred:
  • Formal leadership training
  • Training or certifications in ITSM (IT Service Management)

SALARY AND APPOINTMENT DETAILS:
This is a full-time (100 FTE%, 12/12) Academic Professional appointment. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The salary range for this position starts at $95,000. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
