Job Summary
DEPARTMENT PURPOSE
The Division of Development & Alumni Relations (DEVAR) provides leadership inbuilding enduring public trust, understanding, and support for UC Davis and its mission of teaching, research, and public service. UC Davis' Office of University Development provides leadership, coordination and support services to help the university meet its mission of research, teaching and service by building philanthropic support and executing approved fundraising programs that support the university's highest priorities and initiatives. Within DEVAR the Foundation and Corporate Engagement (FCE) office serves as a one-stop shop to connect industry and foundations across the university based on interest and opportunity. Our specialized team works with faculty and staff in collaboration with various campus offices and unit partners to build and manage strategic and holistic campus-wide corporate and foundation partnerships.
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Managing Executive Director, Foundation Engagement, incumbent participates in designing, developing, delivering, and administering the foundation fundraising program. Identifies new foundation prospects through researching background information on potential funders and developing strategies, briefings, proposals, and communication materials; cultivates, solicits and stewards foundations.
Following a donor-centered approach to fundraising, the Director works in close coordination with the Managing Executive Director to develop and implement a strategic plan for increasing foundation support to the University. Decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of department, division, or campus.
Serves as an expert or lead development professional in foundation relations, which includes donors capable of making significant contributions to the campus. Maintains a portfolio of foundation prospects that include the most influential, complex or highest rated donors. May have authority to make commitments and precedent-setting decisions regarding program design, development, and procedures. May oversee the work of professional and support staff.

Salary Range
Salary Range: $95,000 - $142,900
Departmental budgeted salary is up to $120,000 - $122,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Stand for extended periods of time during events. Lift items weighing up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work occasional overtime including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Provide own transportation to travel to donor visits throughout the state, off-site meetings, and events.
Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
Ability to work effectively in an area where there is constant traffic and noise from office machines, telephones, and conversations.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years of professional or volunteer experience as a successful major gift officer focusing on foundation fundraising; or equivalent transferrable professional experience.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of the campus, including current issues of concern for both the campus and throughout higher education generally and applicable laws, rules, regulations, institutional policies, etc.
  • Possess written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including advanced political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships at all organizational levels and with outside constituencies, including donors and volunteers.
  • Experienced in making persuasive and compelling presentations of campus goals/objectives and in securing gifts. This includes experience in critical thinking, organizational problem recognition/avoidance/resolution skills.
  • Possess project/program management skills, including skill in setting and meeting program/project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Experience in performing foundation fundraising activities within a higher education environment are highly preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of complex university structure in order to effectively coordinate with various academic deans and their development officers regarding philanthropic support needs is highly preferred.
  • Five years of progressively responsible professional experience as a successful foundation relations officer.
  • Awareness, knowledge, and skill in applying diversity, equity and inclusion to one's work. A profound belief in the value of a diverse and safe workforce and a commitment to achieve this goal through collaboration and team building, working cooperatively with a diverse group of department and campus constituencies

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Background Check
This position is a critical position and subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity check.
