JOB SUMMARY:

Assist in the coordination of the annual operating budget, preparation of cost analysis and quarterly board materials. Review of monthly budget reports, preparations of various allocations and the tracking of salary budgets and determining the adequacy of funding for changes in salary.

 

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $110,000 - $125,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Financial Planning and Analysis

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Assist in the coordination of the annual budget.
  • Prepare/review various academic budgets.
  • Act as liaison with academic units on routine budgetary matters.
  • Track salary budgets including the preparation of salary reports and various other schedules needed in determining salary increases and union negotiations.  
  • Determine adequacy of funding for all new hires and salary increases received by Human Resources, to be reviewed during the PRC (Position Review Committee) meetings and as needed on an ad hoc basis.
  • Prepare various allocations including fringe benefits.
  • Utilize and develop analytical reports using internal systems and programs such as SAAS, mvQuery and Data360 to monitor and investigate financial performance of departments across the University.
  • Researches and resolves inquiries from business managers and department leaders, and various detailed budget and financial analysis projects as requested.
  • Recommend methods to help streamline and improve budget and forecast processes for increased efficiency.
  • Prepare payroll supplements, as needed to correct any payroll mispostings.
  • Prepare various budget transfers and review budget transfers prepared and input by other University departments for completeness and accuracy.
  • Track expenditures, including review for overspending.  Includes detailed tracking of certain expenditures and direct communication with other University departments in relation to budget transfers and overspent accounts.
  • Provide training to departments on the reports and tools related to the budget system, general ledger activity and encumbrance information.
  • Analyze current and past trends in key performance indicators including all areas of revenue, financial aid, expenses and capital expenditures.
  • Compile financial data and prepare written summary reports for department managers, senior leadership, and the Board of Trustees with observations and recommendations to improve financial performance.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for the Finance and Investment Committee and the Board of Trustees.
  • Assist the CFO and Director of Budget FP&A with special projects as needed.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrate professionalism and personal integrity.
  • Knowledge of and desire to continue to promote and enhance shared governance.
  • Strong computer skills for Windows, Microsoft Word and Power Point, Google Suite and Email.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skill, with demonstrated knowledge of Pivot tables, formulas and other advanced Excel tools and functions required.
  • Experience with ERPs and data analysis tools is not required, but is desirable.
  • EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance is required.
  • Advanced degree and/or CPA is preferred.
  • Five to ten years of experience in accounting or finance is required.
  • Basic understanding of GAAP.
  • Experience developing and analyzing complex financial models.
