Job Description


Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Director of Financial Operations plans, organizes, and directs the college’s financial operations. These include managing the accounting department, student aid disbursement, grant disbursements, budget development and reporting, financial statement preparation, audits responses, and the Agency Risk Management Internal Control Standards (ARMICS). This position will also provide leadership to develop/utilize financial dashboards to monitor and report on the college’s financial position and to perform process improvements. Additionally, this position create strategic partnerships with college executives to review departmental funds, develop budgets, and collaborate on the strategic uses and generations of funds.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge in generally accepted accounting principles and practices and their application to state and federal accounting and reporting.
  • Progressive experience in accounting and fiscal operations.
  • Experience in utilizing financial information systems, and dashboards to analyze and assess financial operations.
  • Experience in preparing and communicating financial reports.
  • Experience in managing and supervising a large staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and working with executive-level staff.
  • Progressive experience managing and directing a comprehensive financial operations department in an automated environment.
  • Considerable experience directing a large staff of professional accountants and paraprofessionals.
  • Comprehensive experience developing financial statements and analyzing financial data.

This is a position of special trust and confidentiality and requires the individual hired to successfully undergo an extensive criminal background and reference check. The selected candidate will be required to complete the Commonwealth’ Statement of Economic Interest. Successful completion of criminal background investigation administered by Virginia State Police is also required.
Additional Considerations
  • Masters-level coursework or specialized related training, preferably in accounting, finance or a business-related discipline.
  • Experience in public sector financial management and reporting.
