 General Description: The Financial Advocacy and Stability Program Director will oversee the day-to-day activities and operations of NOVA’s Financial Advocacy and Stability Centers, activities, and programming. The Director will facilitate partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to increase access to wrap-around services and benefits for NOVA students, to include social service programs, financial coaching, and career resources. The Director will develop and administer on-campus programming at all NOVA campuses and develop and maintain partnerships with area social service and non-profit agencies to offer on-site referral and application support. The Director will oversee the operations of campus-based Financial Advocacy and Stability Centers. This role is predominantly community-based but will also demand active participation in the college community, including collaboration with NOVA Educational Foundation, Provosts and Deans, financial aid, student services staff, community outreach staff, career services, and multiple college working groups.
 Duties and Tasks: • Directs, implements and evaluates Financial Advocacy and Stability programming  
 • Directs intake and assessment for wrap-around services and facilitates partnerships and referral processes to regional service providers 
 • Directs outreach to affiliate programs and monitors student participation at college and campus events 
 • Oversees and ensures college follow-up with students and partnering agencies regarding student case referrals and outcomes 
 • Directs and responsible for training and monitoring community partners on completion of college application and financial assistance paperwork including FAFSA 
 • Oversees and monitors scheduling of student appointments with visiting partner organizations, including social services, community based organizations, legal and financial coaching services 
 • Coordinates collection of data and tracking of outcomes with internal (OIR, Financial Aid, etc.) and external (Social Service agencies, community non-profit organizations, etc.) stakeholders 
 • Maintain relationships to promote access to the college by informing partners about, economic mobility, career pathways and associated programming, as well as outcomes of students who have completed career training programs or financial coaching 
 • Produces reports, and provides consistent feedback on programs 
 • Hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers for Financial Advocacy and Stability Centers and programming 
 
 
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
 |Required KSAs: • Significant knowledge of social work/human services/counseling theory and practice 
 • Significant knowledge of student services pedagogy and practice in higher education, including academic, career and financial counseling 
 • Extensive knowledge of federal financial aid requirements and procedures as well as financial assistance requirements and procedures for WCG and FANTIC. Experience with WIOA funding preferred 
 • Expert ability to analyze complex student situations 
 • Significant knowledge of community resources to assist students in crisis 
 • Deep understanding of the factors that contribute to the success of career seeking and adult students 
 • Significant skill in grant and report writing and development 
 • Ability to collect, track and report data and outcomes, including monthly, quarterly, and annual evaluations 
 • Significant knowledge and proficiency in computer systems, including Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, and any case management Benefits Bank systems acquired by the institution 
 • Ability to interpret and implement technical and instructional information related to social work and/or education measures and policies 
 • Skill in public speaking and instructional delivery; ability to train other professionals and present to large groups 
 • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced, multi-site, and highly diverse environment 
 • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and travel regularly to various on- and off-campus worksites (including community locations and other NOVA Campuses) 
 • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse student population 
 • Skill and ability with connecting with government officials, community and special interest groups, volunteers, businesses, including financial institutions, along with students, faculty & staff, administrators and board members to promote involvement in agency programs tied to Financial Advocacy and Stability to exchange information and provide program administration. 
 • Ability to work evening and occasional weekend hours;
 Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in social work, human services, or similar field related to the position.  Qualifying degree must be from a regionally accredited institution. Experience networking across community colleges and with state/local government officials. This individual must have a social work/counseling/advising background and experience working with adult students from a wide variety of educational and personal backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Working experience with Achieving the Dream Working Student Success Network Program experience; working experience with SingleStop Program; experience with PeopleSoft preferred; significant experience with special populations including veterans, low-income students, student parents, and those transitioning from GED programs.
