Director of Equity and Strategic Programs

  Stanford University School of Medicine, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, was founded in 1858 with a mission to be the premier research-intensive medical school that improves health through leadership, diversity, and a collaborative approach to discovery and innovation in patient care, education, and research.

Stanford Medicine’s Office of Faculty Development and Diversity in the Office of the Dean seeks an energetic, results-oriented individual as its Director of Equity and Strategic Programs. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Equity and Strategic Initiatives in the Office of the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Diversity, with dotted line reporting to the Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Diversity, the Director of Equity and Strategic Programs provides coordination of Stanford Medicine’s diversity and inclusion efforts across the School of Medicine, Stanford Health Care, and Stanford Children’s Health. Uses advanced operational concepts and organizational objectives to research and resolve complex policy, program, and administrative issues. Develops and maintains high quality program-specific communications and information, including briefings, reports, and websites. Designs training for the Stanford Medicine workforce.

Duties include:
  • Design training opportunities for employees across Stanford Medicine, on unconscious bias, microaggressions, change management for diversity, and other diversity, equity, and inclusion topics using adult learning principles.
  • Identify gaps in training opportunities and source content and develop trainings to fill those gaps. Decide format and delivery of trainings based on audience and content.
  • Develop strategies to ensure disparate diversity/inclusion strategies, practices, resources, and best practices are aligned across the School of Medicine, Stanford Health Care, and Stanford Children’s Health.
  • Lead design and/or purchase and implementation of teaching materials related to diversity and inclusion. Decide how best to deploy materials and proper sequencing within the curriculum.
  • Write proposals and research grants in collaboration with Stanford Health Care and Stanford Children’s Health related to diversity practices across Stanford Medicine.
  • Work in collaboration with Dean’s Office Communications Team to identify areas to highlight diversity and inclusion within various existing communication channels and publications.
  • Manage activities of the Stanford Medicine Diversity Cabinet.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.

  • Background in diversity & inclusion and change management.
  • Advanced knowledge of campus-based diversity and inclusion issues and direct experience working on diversity issues on a college or university campus preferred.
  • Experience working and communicating with diverse communities.
  • Familiarity with program evaluation, including Excel and database development.
  • Advanced skills in long-range planning and program management.
  • Energetic, innovative, creative, self-starter, problem-solver, results-oriented.


  • Bachelor's degree and three or more years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required for some programs. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans.


  • Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.
  • Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
  • Ability to oversee and direct staff.
  • Basic knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans.


  • For teaching jobs, advanced degree or certification may be required for some programs.


  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.
  • Ability to use voice to present information/communicate with others.
  • On-campus mobility.
