Position Overview
The KU Engineering Career Center (ECC) supports School of Engineering students with high-quality career information, connections, and educational opportunities as they explore, evaluate and pursue their professional goals. As a member of the Engineering Career Center team, the Director will provide the strategic leadership; establish and cultivate new partnerships with employers, organizations, and alumni; as well as expand existing relationships - developing increased career-related engagement and opportunities for all KU School of Engineering undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, this individual will direct the development of career education and collaborate on implementation. This position is a full-time, regular appointment reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Some travel will be required, as well as the use of KU contracted vehicles. Also, occasional weekend/evening work will be required as the needs of the position demand.

Job Description
Management and Data (25%)
- Provide strategic, overall direction for the Career Center within the School of Engineering. In collaboration with staff, outline annual priorities and vision, moving office forward through data-informed decisions and planning.
- Supervise and guide staff. Hire, train, and evaluate performance; conducting annual reviews. Provide professional development opportunities as available and appropriate.
- Design, enhance, deliver and assess career related services and programs.
- Benchmark structure, services, and programs utilizing professional journals and associations.
- Maintain on-going membership in NACE, NCDA, and other appropriate professional career organizations. Build and strengthen relationships with Career Services Directors in the Big XII and Kansas Board of Regents universities.
- Organize and administer the Engineering Career Center Advisory Council.
- Prepare and manage the annual operating budget and monitor funds. Steward several endowment accounts.
- Provide information to stakeholders on employment trends, student outcomes, salaries, and other relevant reports.
- Oversee student experiential learning and networking programs.
- Oversee student hiring and recruitment process, including student-employer connections ranging from job and internship postings to large career fair events.
- Ensure that employer and student services are provided uniformly and consistently, without preferential treatment yet serving the unique needs of each.
Employer & Alumni Development (40%)
- Lead ECC development and coordination of strategic partnerships with both new and established employers, alumni, key organizations, and other external entities; in collaboration with colleagues internally and across KU.
- Utilize a data informed decision-making framework to facilitate strategic planning and focus.
- Initiate, promote and cultivate these prospective relationships to increase engagement opportunities, professional networks, mentoring, and internships/employment for students.
- Participate in conferences/events to represent KU and connect with potential partners.
- Create and market information through print, digital media, social media and other avenues with potential partners.
- Expand relationships with established partner organizations and alumni already connecting with KU.
- Track activities, evaluate progress, and present information to stakeholders.
Student Education, Programs, and Advising (25%)
- Collaborate on education of School of Engineering students in career development, planning, and implementation.
- Envision and design career educational content and materials; provide comprehensive information and resources.
- Develop and teach career-related programs; oversee other instructional staff members.
- Advise students in the career exploration process; administer and interpret vocational assessments.
- Provide individual career advising expertise to students/alumni regarding the job or internship search process; including resumes/CVs, interviewing, letter writing, networking, salary negotiation and other career preparation areas.
- Provide advising and resources for students pursuing admission to graduate school as well as educational resources for those seeking career paths in other areas, such as entrepreneurial ventures.
- Design, collect, analyze and report data from participants.
School and Campus Collaboration (5%)
- Team with KU Career Service Directors and other campus partners on the development of experiential programming and assessment as well as other relevant services.
- Review, select, and purchase technology-based tools and software in partnership with other KU Career Centers.
- Collaborate within and across campus to utilize and manage technology-based tools and software.
- Team up on ECC and school-wide events and initiatives.
- Communicate and coordinate with faculty and departments on career related education and opportunities.
- Oversee and coordinate with other staff to maintain accuracy of student information.
