Job Description

The Director of Engineering Business Services is responsible for the daily business  operations and processes associated with the College of Engineering Business ServicesMajor duties include managing workflows and supervision of departmental business leads, ensuring proper management of departmental workload, provide guidance, and serve as a resource to trouble shoot complex business matters.

Responsibilities:

Engineering Business Services (EBS) Team Management and Supervision 50%

  • This position is responsible for overseeing the college of engineering academic departments business leads, ensuring proper management of departmental workload while providing guidance.  Supervision and performance review of subordinates.   Works to establish directions, goals, agendas, and implementation strategies to maximize efficient and effective services. 
  • Major duties include managing workflows and supervision of departmental business leads, provide extensive trouble shooting for complex business matters.  
  • Develops short- and long-term goals and strategic plans to ensure quality services and enhance the development of new services to meet organizational activities, including budget planning and forecasting that will benefit department heads, faculty and researchers. 
  • Fosters a collaborative relationships with external and internal members and works to solutions to day-to-day operational activities.
  • Develops operational plans that include goals and objectives that work toward the strategic direction of the engineering enterprise. 
  • Establishes a working relationship with key stakeholders, including department head(s), faculty, Engineering HR & Payroll, fiscal and other TAMUS offices. 

Troubleshooting 25%

  • Provides high level assistance to the EBS team. Assists in researching, , and identifying solutions.
  • Proactively monitors training needs to assure compliance, consistency and process improvement. Serves as primary source for all business-related strategies, processes, compliance, as well as a mentor to team.  

Training 20%

  • Responsible for working with departmental business leads to create EBS process  manuals to provide consistent application of business processes across the college. This includes engaging stakeholders such as research faculty and the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) business leader to create efficient and effective workflows, solutions, and process improvements.
  • Will assure implementation and adoption of solutions. Will plan, organize, and execute special projects related to the EBS teams.  Will work with departmental business leads in effectively utilizing internal reports and management systems to ensure teams are receiving and processing information effectively and with attention to compliance.

Other Duties 5%

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience:

  • Ten years of related experience.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other relevant bachelors or postgraduate degree.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in administering academic budgets and sponsored research contracts and grants, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience with FAMIS, TAMU and TEES Purchasing Procedures
  • Experience with MAESTSRO
  • Professional non-clerical experience in general office, accounting, or personnel operations
  • Personal and professional experience in working with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience Managing Business Operations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
  • Working knowledge of standard office equipment, microcomputers, and mainframe environments.
  • Ability to multi‐task and work cooperatively with others.
