Director of Educational Enrichment (Student Retention Specialist)

ATHLETICS (BA-ATHL-IUBLA)

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides direct support for learning disabled and educationally disadvantaged assigned student-athletes. 
  • Assesses students' educational level and ability (especially at matriculation), screens for learning disabilities, works with Disability Services for Students and/or psychologist for diagnosis and accommodations, and designs individual support programs for assigned students. 
  • Supervises learning services staff and academic mentors.
  • Develops, executes, and evaluates comprehensive learning initiative programs for student-athletes.
  • Serves as learning specialist for various student-athletes.
  • Facilitates assessments and educational evaluations, and organizes psychoeducational testing for student-athletes.
  • Acts as a liaison to campus Student Disability Services and other campus committees.
  • Creates and executes educational development programming including the New Student Summer Bridge Program.

General Responsibilities

  • Develops and distributes reports of enrollment, year-over-year retention, progress toward degree completion, and graduation for distribution to leaders in enrollment management and across various student services functions. 
  • Maintains historical reports for trend analysis and benchmarking.
  • Serves on committees and works collaboratively with other student services staff to maintain an understanding of the full student athlete life-cycle and typical barriers to retention, degree completion, and graduation.
  • Develops and implements retention programs, initiatives, and targeted communications to improve student athlete enrollment and retention outcomes.
  • Performs targeted outreach and interacts directly with at-risk student athletes, connecting them with resources to navigate barriers to completion.
  • Evaluates enrollment data to determine the effectiveness of current enrollment processes; liaises with and serves as a resource for academic departments, offices, programs, and schools across campus to develop and realize enrollment goals.
  • Determines enrollment demand and mechanisms for maximizing enrollment capacity for specific courses and may make recommendations to appropriate registrar and academic representatives on future course offerings.
  • Performs industry research and makes recommendations for process improvements in line with industry best practices.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in business, public policy, or related field

Preferred

  • Master's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 5 years in enrollment management, admissions, student services, higher education, or related field

Preferred

  • Experience in athletics learning services or related field
  • 1 year of experience as a supervisor

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
