Purpose

To direct the Office of Education Services in the College of Education, including the Compliance Office and Field Experiences. To serve as a liaison between the university and school districts administrative offices in matters related to teacher education. To liaison with the Texas Education Agency and policies for K-12 educator training; and to further the academic mission of the College of Education to Reimagine Education through the Signature Impact Areas.


Responsibilities

  • Assist the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Director of Teacher Education with developing strategy for teacher preparation.

  • Direct & Manage the Office of Education Services, ensuring compliance with college, university, state, and federal regulations across a diverse study body and multiple majors that lead to teacher certifications.  The Office of Education Services provides oversight and tracking of: (a) student progress to degree; (b) field experiences and the professional development series and/or residencies; (c) relationships with cooperating teachers; and (d) state and federal compliance reports; and (e) certification processes.

  • Compile on-demand reports and studies as mandated by various governing bodies and to support college initiatives.

  • Provide complex administrative tasks related to student affairs, faculty issues, parental concerns, school district partnerships, etc. Help to manage concerns regarding field placements that involve students.

  • Work with the COE Business Office and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to develop and maintain the budget for the Office of Education Services.

  • Serves on Education Services-related COE committees.

  • Attends national and state Education Services-related conferences.


Required Qualifications

  • A Masters degree in Education.

  • Three (3) years of K-12 public school teaching.

  • Experience working with teacher preparation programs across a wide variety of certification pathways, including field placement, supervision and evaluation of teacher candidates.

  • Experience with educator administration and the roles of interpreting, applying, and responding to complex state laws, program policies, and mandated compliance. 

  • Ability to liaise with multiple educational stakeholders, including school district personnel, education policy personnel, higher education faculty and administration, students and families.

  • Work with and supporting students through stressful situations and decision-making. 

  • Experience managing and leading a team, conducting meetings with diverse groups of educators in response to state laws, education policies, and mandates for compliance.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • A Doctoral degree in Education.

  • K-12 experience with administrative responsibilities or as building administrator.

  • Experience managing budgets.

  • University-level teaching in a teacher preparation program.

  • Experience with grants for teacher preparation.


Salary Range

$105,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
