Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | University Development’s purpose is to support the mission of the university by raising private resources to enhance financial support for students, faculty, programs, and facilities. University Development provides leadership and centralized services to all development offices throughout the University, serving as a focal point for annual giving, application development and IT support; campaign management; constituent programs; corporate and foundation relations; donor relations; gift planning; gift services; industry relations; marketing/communications; parents giving; principal gifts; prospect management, research and analytics; regional programs; scholarships and student aid; talent management; university events; and volunteer engagement. Position Summary | This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. Reporting to the Executive Director of Donor Relations and Revenue Management, the Director of Donor Relations is responsible for managing a team, and developing, implementing, and continually improving a comprehensive stewardship program focused on communications, recognition, naming opportunities, endowment reporting and compliance, scholarship stewardship, and custom major donor stewardship. The Director collaborates closely with schools and units across campus, as well University Development Office leadership, to maintain donor relations standards and donor-centric programming across all areas of the university. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Knowledge of industry standards. Prior experience developing and administering budgets and working with a customer relationship management system required. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite necessary and strong Excel skills required. Must have excellent organizational, time and project management, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Requires strong writing, copy editing, analytical abilities with the ability to prepare reports and make effective and persuasive presentations to internal and external constituents. Ability to collaborate and guide the integrity and maintenance of database records and files including those used to track donor and gift information, endowments, major gifts, and other contributions. Highly developed creative problem-solving skills. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Five (5) years of professional work experience, including three (3) years managing a team in donor relations and/or fundraising/development. Understanding of endowment spending and experience with cloud-based donor engagement tools preferred. |
