What We Want

The Librarian Director will direct the development and implementation of library data and scholarly initiatives, programs, and services supporting faculty and students at Texas A&M University Colleges, Schools, and Agencies. In addition, this position will direct the dissemination of new scholarly communication information, data visualizations, repository opportunities and changes to key performance indicators (KPIs). The Librarian Director will lead in training and staff development on scholarly and data related methods and policies using a variety of information tools, software applications, resources, copyright, data management, and maintaining a strong repository and digital presence. The position will also serve as a leader in departmental and interdepartmental meetings and activities in the Research & Digital Scholarship division.

Minimum Starting Salary: $7916.67 per month

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Ten years of related experience, which includes three years of supervisory experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Knowledge of academic library functions

  • Ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities

  • Ability to communicate with all levels of customers and employees

  • Conflict resolution skills

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage, plan, and organize overall unit and operations

  • Master's degree in a technology-related field (Computer Science, etc.)

  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service

  • Ability to take initiative

  • Familiarity in working with a repository

Responsibilities:

  • Director of Digital and Scholarly initiatives: Direct the development and implementation of library data and scholarly initiatives, programs, and services supporting faculty and students at Texas A&M University Colleges, Schools, and Agencies. Collaborate with strategic partners across Texas A&M University on addressing digital and scholarly initiative needs. Lead in the education of data and measurement products focused on academic key performance indicators (KPIs) set by strategic partners. Direct the dissemination of new scholarly communication information, data visualizations, repository opportunities and changes to key performance indicators (KPIs). Assist in the development and support of new research programs.

  • Supervision of Digital and Scholarly Initiatives: Lead librarians and staff in the Digital and Scholarly Initiatives department. Direct regular meetings, staff activities, and provides feedback and coaching to staff. Lead in training and staff development on scholarly and data related methods and policies using a variety of information tools, software applications, resources, copyright, data management, and maintaining a strong repository and digital presence. Direct expansion in services to match campus and student needs.

  • Collaborations and Partnerships: Serve as a leader in departmental and interdepartmental meetings and activities in the Research & Digital Scholarship division. Collaborate with the Research Impact, Electronic Resources, and Library Instruction units on design, delivery, assessment, and promotion of library programs and services for scholarly and data driven support. Actively engage and support Library and TAMU Initiatives.

  • Contributions to the Profession: Participate in scholarly activities and professional service for professional development and to incorporate new ideas and technologies into library services and programs. Serve on campus and library committees and engages with campus units to advocate for Library presence in campus research initiatives and performs other duties as assigned.
