Position Description

The Director of Development for the UofL Health Brown Cancer Center (BCC) will oversee efforts for the BCC annual-fund, employee giving, targeted fundraising efforts, vendor engagement and solicitation, grateful patient outreach, and special events. They will work with a team of fundraisers and related staff, as well as BCC leadership and members of the board of the UofL Health Foundation. They will serve as a front-line fundraiser for efforts as assigned. They will work with minimal supervision and are responsible for planning, researching, problem solving and performing special projects as assigned. They must be able to function independently, organize, prioritize, work well under pressure and deal effectively with all levels within and outside of the organization. They will coordinate targeted BCC fundraising campaigns, special appeals, engagement efforts, and ongoing events.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, organize, and implement BCC annual giving, employee giving, targeted fundraising campaigns as assigned, and grateful patient program in coordination with senior leadership of development, the UofL Foundation and Brown Cancer Center Leadership.
  • Collaborate with other university advancement staff on shared areas to ensure a donor-centric approach is taken so full consideration of a donor's or organization's multiple interests are taken into account.
  • Will coordinate and organize BCC events, in communication with BCC Executive Director of Development, to assist with planning and execution of events, providing guidance, support and presence at third-party fundraising events, and securing needed funds to hold events and increase mission support.
  • Work with prospective vendors and sponsors to build mission support.
  • Build relationships with doctors, staff, and patients to collect patient stories for the grateful patient program, marketing, and impact reports.
  • Work with staff to identify potential grateful patient verbal cues and how to make the referral to a member of development.
  • Draft and deploy annual giving solicitation letters and emails, and special campaigns. Collaborate on an employee giving program and build a culture of giving among staff.
  • Draft and deploy monthly thank you emails and weekly calls. Call each donor to unit within one week of gift to thank them for their gift and verify gift intent/placement.
  • Create, in conjunction with Senior Director of Development-BCC and marketing of annual giving, employee giving and grateful patient materials.
  • Assist in BCC Stewardship and compile stewardship information from across the Brown Cancer Center, steward past donors with ongoing engagement opportunities that will build affinity for, and ownership of, the Brown Cancer Center.
  • Maintain usage numbers on patient resources and report back to donors.
  • Assist with BCC and ULF finance officers to ensure timely use and disbursement of donor funds and reporting. Maintain budgets of fund usage and ensure private support is available to key programs.
  • Meet or exceed annual goals as defined each year by VP of UofL Health Philanthropy.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 100 vendors and leadership annual donors, executing actions/contacts and recording all visits and contacts within the CRM database.
  • Refer and identify prospects to, and work collaboratively with, colleagues.
  • Coordinate with researchers and community members to schedule tours of the CTRB and BCC.
  • Ongoing efforts to share timely updates on responsibilities. Performs other duties as assigned.

Occasional nights and weekends will be required to attend events in support of the unit initiatives and/or to complete tasks. Occasional in-state and regional travel may be required.
