Job Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement and working in close collaboration with the Office of Grants and Contracts (OGC), this full-time, University Staff (non-classified) Director of Development for Corporations and Foundations position will lead a collaborative effort between Advancement and Research to foster strategic partnerships and increase investment by institutional funders in support of priorities at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Anschutz).

Essential Duties:

  • Create and execute a plan for creating robust partnerships with corporations, foundations, associations, and other organizational funders with the goal of growing and diversifying revenues.
  • Manage and optimize relationships with a portfolio of significant regional and national corporations, foundations, and other funding organizations consistent with established Advancement protocols. This includes, identifying and prioritizing prospective institutional funding partners as well as managing and growing existing relationships.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of institutional priorities, academic programs, and centers of excellence in order to translate these assets into compelling funding opportunities and align them with funders’ interests.
  • Work closely with academic leadership and key faculty to identify those programs and initiatives that best lend themselves to corporate/foundation support.
  • Advise both Advancement and campus leadership regarding new initiatives and other strategic corporate and foundation partnership opportunities, including their respective roles in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of key relationships.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the development and submission of significant corporate and foundation proposals of the highest quality, including occasional writing, editing, and/or other guidance that maximizes the likelihood of success.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact (and primary relationship manager) for organizations that wish to partner with CU Anschutz in meaningful ways, facilitating appropriate introductions and exchange of ideas and information that serve to advance campus priorities, as well as the interests of the prospective funder.
  • Serve as a primary resource and advisor for Advancement colleagues in supporting their engagement and solicitation of institutional funders within their area(s) of responsibility and actively seek their advice regarding existing relationships and opportunities vis-à-vis individual donors, alumni, and friends.  Additionally, act as the liaison with peers on other CU campuses and at the CU system to effectively coordinate cultivation and solicitation strategies that fully leverage the university’s assets and the full potential of the CU partnership when applicable.
  • Collaborate and closely coordinate funder engagement strategies with select faculty, the Office of Grants and Contracts, Prospect Research, and others to remain abreast of funding opportunities, RFPs, and recurring proposal deadlines and establish consistent protocols for disseminating such opportunities to the appropriate audience(s).
  • Work with stewardship coordinators, faculty, OGC staff, and others, as necessary, to ensure timely and appropriate stewardship of current and previous institutional funders, consistent with the terms and reporting requirements of grant agreements as well as best practices.
  • And various other duties or tasks as assigned and/or needed.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Four (4) years of successful professional fundraising experience, or experience in related fields like nonprofit administration, public affairs, or business development that included managing funding relationships with corporations or foundations.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a higher education and/or medical campus environment and/or relevant experience working in a nonprofit environment as a fundraiser.
  • Project Management - Personal computer proficiency required, especially as related to Microsoft Office Products; MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and donor tracking software.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of corporate and foundation relationship building and gift management, including cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation.
  • Expert ability to communicate verbally and in writing, and develop and maintain interpersonal relationships.
  • Expert ability to organize and manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously
  •  Must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proven ability to foster and build relationships internally and externally.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $90,000 - $117,000.

    The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
