Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, the Director of Development for the College of Engineering (CoE), College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) and School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems (BIOMED) is a member of the Institutional Advancement (IA) team assigned to develop philanthropic resources for the assigned colleges and schools. This position will play a central role in major gift fundraising and contribute to the enhancement of leadership annual giving and major gift support. 

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Functions

  • Secures major gifts of $50,000 or more by pursuing the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of private support from individuals to the College of Engineering and College of Computing and Informatics.
  • Builds and manages a pool of approximately 150 prospects capable of making commitments of a minimum of $50,000 in a regionalized model.
  • Maintains an active schedule of a combination of in-person and virtual meetings with major gift suspects and prospects, including alumni, parent and friends in an assigned geographic territory throughout the country.
  • Assists in the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of principal gifts prospects and donors in association with the Assistant Vice President of Development.
  • Coordinates with the Assistant Vice President in identifying and working with key volunteers to establish and strengthen advisory boards for the College of Engineering and College of Computing and Informatics.
  • Coordinates with the Assistant Vice President and the Office of Alumni Engagement to help foster activities that contribute to a culture of philanthropy in the colleges.
  • Stewards donors through ongoing communications, recognition activities, invitations to key events, and interaction with beneficiaries of their support.
  • Coordinates such activities with the central Donor Relations function as needed.
  • Coordinates closely with the Office of Planned Giving, paying special attention to opportunities to secure new planned gifts and steward members of the Drexel University Legacy Society.
  • Builds relationships with Department Heads and academic Program Directors and has knowledge of priorities for the success of departments within the Colleges.
  • Promotes University priorities and image to constituents.
  • Serves as front line staff to promote campus goals and objectives.
  • Maintains current knowledge of university-wide institutional priorities.
  • As appropriate, and with the knowledge of the Assistant Vice President, qualifies, cultivates and solicits prospects on behalf of other campus units.
  • Follows Institutional Advancement procedures regarding prospect management and documenting contacts.
  • Oversees and submits all relative fundraising reports, statistics, projections and publications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of successful experience in development and major gift fundraising, preferably in higher education or health system setting.
  • Ability and willingness to travel on a frequent basis.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent administrative skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Course work in subjects relevant to Business.
  • Experience working with senior- and executive-level employees.
  • Knowledge of prospect management systems.
  • Knowledge of database fundraising software CS Advance.
  • Digital fundraising experience.
  • Familiarity with planned giving concepts and experience in soliciting planned gifts.

Hybrid: Remote/University City, Philadelphia PA

Additional Information

This position is classified as Exempt, grade M. Compensation for this grade ranges from $75,200 - $112,790. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
