Job Description:
The position is responsible for the administration, implementation, and development of all Department of Defense education programs at the Whitman School of Management. These programs include the Defense Comptrollership MBA/Executive Masters in Public Administration Program, the Army Comptroller Course (ACC), the Executive Comptroller Course (ECC), and the Senior Resource Managers Course (SRMC). This position is also responsible for the development of new courses and programs to meet the funded demands of the Department of Defense.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and graduate degree required (MBA/ MPA highly desirable) and 10+ year experience.
  • Preferred: Department of Defense official with a wide range of leadership and management experiences at major headquarters or departmental level.
  • Strong understanding of DOD Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) processes.

Job Specific Qualifications:
  • Solid foundation in concepts, theories, and practice of management activities with the US Military Services and the Department of Defense.
  • Experience in the development and marketing of management executive education and complex programs.
  • Fields of expertise: executive leadership, comptrollership, financial management, resource management, and manpower management.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide and oversee administration, develop, plan, and implement program of study, identify, and coordinate guest speakers, and supervise program staff. Work with internal key stakeholders (Whitman, Maxwell, IVMF, Sponsored Program) to maintain program excellence and to continue to meet DoD educational requirements. Serve as Whitman School representative at the DoD. Participate in DoD and defense industry committees and working groups and contribute to professional education and training initiatives when requested.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of Defense education curriculum including the development, revision, updating curriculum, and identify and engage faculty. Select faculty at Whitman and Maxwell to deliver courses and teach key seminars and develop educational modules to deliver Defense Comptrollership Seminars and modules on financial law, budget process, etc.
  • Manage program finances and develop and administer budgets, negotiate tuition, curriculum, and residency costs with DoD. Ensure the Defense programs fiscal responsibility and adhere to Syracuse University and DoD financial reporting standards.
  • Oversee the admissions process, collaborating with Secretariat and senior staffs of Military Services to identify program participants in all-levels of Comptrollership courses. Work with Whitman leadership to establish standards and make final admission decisions. Ensure participants meet program objectives & DoD expectations.
  • Supervise program staff, including management of the Associate Director and administrative support staff. Oversee the student certification process and adhere to American Society of Military Comptrollers standards.
