Job Description

What We Are Looking For

Baylor University is seeking a Director of Counseling Services to support the mental health of all Baylor students by providing vision and leadership as the department provides direct clinical services to students, training for staff and graduate trainees, and community programming on mental health topics all within a Christian higher education context.

A Master’s degree, five years of relevant work experience, and an active Christian faith are required. A Doctoral degree and seven years of relevant work experience are preferred. 

*All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. 

What You Will Do

  • Provide leadership to all staff and programs of the department including: 17 mental health providers, 6 admin staff, 8 trainees; delivery of clinical services to 2,000+ students annually in-person (individual, couples, and group therapy), telehealth counseling services through third-party partnership (1,000 students annually), training program (includes practicum training program and APA Accredited Doctoral Internship in Health Services Psychology), and community programming/outreach to student population on mental health.
  • Plan and assess the department's progress in completing goals defined through the 5-year vision and strategic plan, IACS accreditation and review, and APA Accreditation for Doctoral Internship in Health Services Psychology. Manage department budget and staffing to achieve these goals. 
  • Provide direction on personnel matters including annual performance evaluations. 
  • Coordinate with the Office of General Counsel on legal and ethical issues pertaining to the department.
  • Lead weekly all staff meetings and BUCC Leadership Team meeting.
  • Provide administrative supervision to BUCC Leadership Team (1 Associate Director, 2-3 Assistant Directors). 
  • Represent department on designated university committees, at university events, bi-weekly Department Leadership Team in Student Life, and monthly directors meeting for Student Health and Wellness. 
  • Provide presentations on counseling services and mental health for students, faculty, staff, families, and constituents (e.g., Orientation). 
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet the mental health and well-being needs of students.
  • Provide individual, couples, and group therapy; crisis intervention (including after-hours on-call); initial assessments, and referrals as necessary. 
  • Maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Participate in continued training and professional growth opportunities, which includes the continuing education credits required to maintain licensure.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission. 
  • Ability to comply with university policies. 
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
