Job Summary
The Corporate Alliances team is the primary means by which D^3 will engage with corporations, nonprofits, foundations, and others. Alliances will be designed to “accelerate” research, for both Harvard and our collaborators, inside their respective organizations.
The Director of Corporate Alliances will maintain a portfolio of leads and oversee existing institute members to promote the impact of D^3 faculty research, and drive impact through the delivery of services that add value to our strategic partners. With a background in sales and/or fundraising, this position will build lasting alliances that engage organizations on questions at the intersection of research and practice and build a novel infrastructure for aligning academic research with practical outcomes at the vanguard of technological innovation.
Position Description
Responsibilities Include:
- Lead the definition and delivery of a new engagement and membership model for industry partners.
- Lead acquisition of members and other corporate fundraising; negotiate and close new partners.
- Manage and mentor a team of Strategic Account Managers responsible for acquiring and nurturing relationships with corporate partners.
- Scope and define an operating model for a new Member Services function; scale team and define and deliver KPIs.
- Support engagement with existing strategic relationships, R&D executives, CIOs, CTOs, CEOs, and others, to demonstrate the value of the institute to industry and develop, nurture, and negotiate engagements.
- Help to inform learning opportunities to engage partner organizations in existing and custom learning engagements.
- Oversee all aspects of relationship management and member services.
- Engage with HBS Executive Education, HBS Online, and others, to create synergies between partner organizations.
- Oversee a cadence of regular partner check-ins, updates, and annual or other engagements, such as large-scale research symposia or institute showcase.
- This role is responsible for other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 10+ years of professional experience in sales, fundraising, corporate relations, strategic alliances, industry relations, or related field is required.
- Executive relationship management experience.
- Working knowledge of digital transformation and Artificial Intelligence concepts.
- Working knowledge of academic research and related policies/processes.
- Subject matter expert engagement and relationship building experience

Preferred Qualifications
- MBA, or similar qualifications through a combination or education and experience.
- Previous P&L ownership in a high-stakes sales environment.
- Strong sense of ownership and dedication to accomplish goals and succeed.
- Consistent track record of meeting or exceeding target goals.
Additional Information
This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus 3 days per week. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.
