Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Director of Community Engagement and Programming - Boca Raton, FL.

The College of Social Work & Criminal Justice (CSWCJ) is seeking an established higher education leader and innovative business professional to join our college executive team. The Director of Community Engagement and Programming shall be appointed by the Dean of CSWCJ with consultation from the college executive team. Under the direct supervision of the Dean, this candidate will expand and implement the strategic vision for continuing education and training programs within the college. These include all non-credit courses and programs, community-based education, and customized training for government, business, and professional associations. The director will be a member of the Dean’s Executive Team and foster academic and organizational excellence within the college, which encompasses two large schools, academic advising, multiple programs, centers, institutes, and delivery formats.

The responsibilities fall within three main categories: 1) community engagement 2) program development and growth leadership, 3) academic integrity and collaboration. The director will be ultimately responsible for delivering an optimized experience to continuing education students and community partners.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the planning, development, implementation, and support of the college’s continuing education units/programs in collaboration with school-level coordinators of existing programs.

  • Prepare and implement comprehensive marketing business plans for revenue generating continuing education programs with the goal of growth and innovation.

  • Oversee the development, growth and administrative aspects of certificate programs, community-based education programming, noncredit education courses, and training for professional adults and students looking to pursue learning outside of a degree program(s). 

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the revenue growth and quality improvement of existing and future certificate programs, community-based education programming, noncredit education courses, and training for professional adults and students looking to pursue learning outside of a degree program(s). This includes day-to-day operations, working directly with the coordinators of all existing programs, and developing courses.

  • Lead, collaborate, advance, and support community engagement activities and efforts for the college and all units.

  • Negotiate contracts for terms and requirements such as pricing, times, dates, locations, instructors, credit-or non-credit, etc.

  • Serve as liaison between businesses/industries and the College to assess programming needs based on demand, community feedback, and direct marketing efforts.

  • Manage the budget, scheduling, and operational efficiency while providing a strong environment for a caring, high-quality, and service-oriented culture.  

  • Maintain effective communication and work directly with the college executive team members, faculty, and staff to enhance, grow, and promote continuing education and professional development programs.

  • Create policies and procedures for program and revenue growth that are compliant with university regulations, licensure requirements and other state and referral regulations.

  • In collaboration with the FAU’s community engagement teams, establish and maintain relationships with businesses, industry partners, public sector and non-profit organizations to advance the mission of the college in all of the communities it serves.

  • Serve as the college representative to select community groups as determined by the college dean. Regularly attend meetings of neighborhood associations, chambers of commerce, and other key regional associations. Regularly represent the College at external partner events.

  • Develop and maintain good relationships with community media organizations.

  • Work with the Director of Communication to develop and implement a public relations program for the college to include coordination of community outreach programs and special events in support of the college’s strategic priority to strengthen collaborations and partnerships.

  • In collaboration with the college Director of Communication, advise the need for general college and specific program marketing to support and/or enhance programming and alumni relations.

  • Work in collaboration with academic units in the development and implementation of community and alumni relations initiatives.

  • Conduct targeted market research to gather data to support departmental decision-making.

  • Serve as the college’s Community Engagement Liaison to FAU’s Office of Community Engagement the FAU Community Engagement team, supporting FAU’s Carnegie Foundation R1 Community Engagement reclassification.

  • Implement programs to maintain and promote alumni relations, interest and support.

  • Develop, promote and coordinate special events and alumni activities.

  • Create and maintain database system to track outcomes and progress on goals.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and six (6) years of experience; or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and eight (8) years of appropriate experience required.
    Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
    Master’s degree in business administration or related field.
    Excellent entrepreneurial, written, and verbal skills.
    Skill in the use of computers and commitment to using technology in instruction.
    Ability to work effectively and collegially with others.
    Ability to proactively address educational and workforce needs related to college disciplines.
