Job Title: Director of Community Collaboration & Engagement

Summary of Position:    The Director of Community Collaboration and Engagement is responsible for fostering collaborative relationships with community partners, working with community leaders for enhanced economic and workforce development, and mobilizing students to actively and meaningfully engage in Grant County in ways that are formative, beneficial, and sustainable.
The Director of Community Collaboration and Engagement will lead out of a personal conviction that:
(1) Community engagement is a vital part of a vibrant and active faith and is integral to the spiritual formation of college students.
(2) Indiana Wesleyan University’s engagement in the community is rooted it its Christian commitment to contribute to the well-being of Grant County.
This temporary position is funded by a Lilly grant through June 30, 2025.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Grant Oversight
    • Manage, implement, and provide administrative oversight for grants associated with community collaboration and engagement, including but not limited to: Early Learning Indiana (2023—2026), College & Community Collaboration (2024—2029), the Community Engagement portion of Charting the Future (2020—2025), etc.
    • Manage grant budgets and ensure all financial policies and procedures are implemented appropriately
    • Collect data and assist with the grant assessment process, including data collection and evaluation
    • Explore ways to sustain the objectives of grant projects after the grant period ends
  • Student Mobilization
    • Provide administrative oversight and support for community engagement outreach programs and initiatives, including, but not limited to: community volunteerism, service learning, campus-wide events, etc. In this context, “community engagement” is defined as off-campus learning experiences for IWU students in Grant County
    • Serve as the primary resource person for students who are interested in, or actively participating in, community engagement outreach programs and initiatives
    • Serve as the primary resource person for community partners and faculty who are interested in connecting IWU students with meaningful engagement in Grant County
  • Collaboration with The Spiritual Formation Office
    • Work cooperatively with the the Spiritual Formation Office team to develop spiritually formative pathways for students on Indiana Wesleyan’s residential campus. This includes supporting initiatives such as chapel, small groups, and worship
    • Collaborate with the Spiritual Formation Office to leverage SFO Programming for Community Engagement efforts
    • Supervise student workers and Graduate Assistant(s) as needed
    • Serve as a liaison between the Spiritual Formation Office and other internal/external stakeholders involved with community engagement efforts
  • IWU Point Person for Community Engagement
    • Travel locally to current and future locations for the purpose of program development, implementation, assessment and site review (some events may occur in the evenings and during summer months). Positively represent IWU and the Spiritual Formation Office at events on/off campus
    • Collaborate with the Marketing department to develop internal/external communication strategies related to community engagement
    • Facilitate meetings, seminars, and other training events associated with Community Engagement at Indiana Wesleyan University
    • Develop and maintain relationships with internal/external constituents in developing, implementing, and assessing community engagement outreach programs and initiatives
    • Strategize with and support the work of the President’s Office and other IWU offices as it pertains to various community engagement efforts
    • Communicate and maintain institutional policies, systems, and procedures associated with grant oversight and community engagement
    • Fulfill all other duties as assigned

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Intercultural Studies, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field of study (required); Master’s degree (preferred)

Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse cultures
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple administrative tasks effectively and efficiently, and able to delegate responsibilities to others
  • Experience working with college students and/or in a higher education culture
  • Experience working with local businesses and non-profit organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal oversight, as well as collaboratively in a team environment
  • Grant management
