Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Director of Communications and Marketing for the Graduate School of Education -Dean’s Office. Reporting to the Dean of the Graduate School of Education (GSE), the Director of Communications and Marketing is responsible for working with the Dean to develop and execute the GSE’s communication, marketing and branding strategies. Accordingly, the position will oversee and manage all communications and marketing for the GSE (internal and external). 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Acts as the GSE’s point of contact for all media and public relations inquiries. 
  • Cultivates media relations with press personnel. 
  • Designs and oversee the development of the GSE’s Annual Impact Report. 
  • Writes and edits reports, stories, and documents for the GSE
  • Designs, edits, and manages website content and functionality; design, edit, and manages newsletters, statements, and press releases. 
  • Maintains the School’s mailing lists; work with campus communication partners as well as externally contracted designers and partners to develop GSE public relations materials. 
  • Works with GSE faculty, staff, students and alumni to ensure that all programs and offices are effectively advertised. 
  • Develops and oversee GSE’s blog site. 
  • Manages GSE social media platforms in support of the GSE’s marketing, branding, and visibility goals.
  • Serves as a member of the Dean’s Senior Leadership Team.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. 
  • A minimum of five years of marketing or related experience that includes success in leading successful comprehensive marketing campaigns.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Self-starter and requires the ability to think strategically.
  • Must have impeccable oral and written communication skills along with exceptional organizational skills. 
  • Computer and technology literacy to include industry standard software and tools. 
  • Ability to plan and produce events and materials in a timely and cost-effective manner. 
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people in a collaborative way. 
  • Demonstration of broad functional experience in market development, market research, and data analysis, 
  • Experience in brand and reputation development. 
  • An accessible and collegial leadership style is a prerequisite, as is the creativity and energy to convince and persuade varying constituencies of new ideas and directions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism or related field. 
  • Experience in and beyond higher education; experience in developing and executing successful integrated marketing and recruiting strategies. 
  • Demonstration of broad functional experience in market development, market research, ROI, and data analysis in a higher education environment. 
  • Understanding of inbound marketing, campaign management, workflows, and customer relationship management.
  • Experience leading digital marketing, web development and management, direct marketing, advertising, public relations, event marketing, social media, and creative services.
