Job Summary
Eastern Washington University and the College of Health Science and Public Health invite applications for a Director of Clinical Education position to begin January 3, 2023.
This is a faculty position with a rank of Clinical Assistant. This position will help develop the nursing program at Eastern Washington University. The Director of Clinical Education’s primary responsibility is to secure clinical placements and oversee clinical requirements for faculty and staff. The individual will have teaching assignments in both clinical and laboratory areas.
Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and to engage in effective teaching.
The College of Health Science and Public Health is housed in a state-of-the-art facility located in the downtown University District in Spokane, Washington. Conditions of Employment
This position will help develop the nursing program at Eastern. Continuation of the position is contingent on program approval by the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission (NCQAC) and approved budget from the State.
To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 1/03/2023.
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR and proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
Note: Interviews might be conducted via Zoom (camera must be enabled). While we anticipate being open for in-person instruction for academic year 2022-23, should Washington State or university pandemic restrictions disallow for in-person instruction, then courses will be taught via online platforms, including Zoom and other technologies. Candidates must be able to demonstrate competence using these technologies.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in nursing
  • Unencumbered Washington Registered Nurse license, or eligible for licensure
  • Current healthcare provider CPR certification
  • At least three years recent clinical experience
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years recent clinical experience
  • Master’s level course work in nursing education
  • Prior experience in nursing education
  • Prior experience in clinical instruction

Responsibility / Duty
A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first semester of the selected candidate’s appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, service and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department. Job duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
Clinical Teaching
  • Supervise a minimum of one integrated practicum course per semester.
  • Supervise students in skills lab and simulated learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design high-quality focused clinical learning activities.
  • Assist with skills competency testing to ensure readiness for clinical practice.
  • Collaborate with faculty and the nursing skills and simulation laboratory manager to design, implement, and evaluate clinical remediation plans.
  • Collaborate with faculty to plan, implement, and evaluate ongoing professional development for clinical instructors.

Teaching also includes the following additional related responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
  • Meet all scheduled classes
  • Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
  • Schedule and attend office hours
  • Turn in grades according to established deadlines
  • Advise students who are declared majors on department, college and University requirements and career opportunities.

Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of learning outcomes.
Clinical Placement Coordination
  • Represent the EWU at the Clinical Placements Northwest (CPNW) Consortium.
  • Collaborate with the CPNW consortium to secure clinical placements for the program.
  • Represent the EWU at community-based clinical sites, including schools, clinics, rural health care agencies, and regional health districts.
  • Collaborate with faculty to select clinical sites appropriate for course learning outcomes and student standing in the program.

Administrative
  • Initiate clinical affiliation agreements.
  • Facilitate faculty orientation to clinical sites.
  • Coordinate meetings with semester-level clinical instructors to assure application of integrated course concepts to clinical practice.
  • Evaluate clinical sites and make recommendations to faculty.
  • Evaluate clinical adjunct faculty and make recommendations to the Chair.
