Job Description:

The College of Osteopathic Medicine at Kansas City University is seeking a Director of Clinical Curriculum who is passionate about teaching and will provide leadership and oversight of the clinical curriculum within the college. The Director of COM Clinical Curriculum is responsible for overseeing the clinical education within the College of Osteopathic Medicine required curriculum according to the plan set forth by the Curriculum Committee. The Director of COM Clinical Curriculum works collaboratively with the Director of COM Preclinical Curriculum to horizontally and vertically integrate the clinical sciences and foundational sciences throughout the required curriculum in years one to four.

Essential functions:

  • Responsible for the leadership, development, supervision, and assessment of clinical medicine education through planning, directing, and the implementation of programs, policies and procedures for the College of Medicine that ensures the integration of scientifically based, outcome evaluated clinical knowledge and skills and osteopathic principles and practice
  • Aligns content with programmatic learning objectives for the purpose of promoting competency
  • Works closely with Assessment Director to adjust program needs according to outcomes
  • Coordinate the clinical curriculum to support preparation for national licensing exams
  • Collaborate with academic unit leadership to provide insights on curriculum design and assessment strategies through the development and implementation of Curriculum
  • Leads projects that build toward curriculum and content mapping using a backward design process
  • Administrative course director to OMS-1 and OMS-2 courses. Provide leadership, support and collaboration with course directors and department chairs to design and implement curriculum within the courses
  • Collaborate with the Director of Assessment of Assessment to design and implement assessments within course, and to integrate outcomes-based approaches to curricular implementation and design
  • Collaborate with Assistant/Associate Dean of Clinical Education and/or Assistant/Associate Dean of Simulation [position dependent] to design opportunities to integrate clinical sciences into foundational courses where appropriate
  • Ensures the use of clerkship evaluation data to improve instructional and program quality
  • Monitors all curriculum reports (mapping, annual curriculum report) and student performance data to support quality improvement efforts
  • Collaborates with the leadership of all subdivisions of the COM in developing and executing policies and procedures 
  • Maintains a manual of the current descriptions of the competencies, learning objectives, and course syllabi for each course in the clinical curriculum
  • Builds and fosters a positive and inclusive academic learning environment
  • Maintain clinical practice presence
  • Teaches in assigned courses as needed
  • Serves on school and institutional committees as assigned

Requirements:

  • MD, DO from an accredited institution
  • Three or more years’ experience in clinical education and/or teaching in a medical school or academic health setting
  • Experience in curriculum design and program evaluation
