The Rutgers Division of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsors 24 intercollegiate sports, comprised of 14 women’s and 10 men’s programs, that compete at the Division I level. The Scarlet Knights are members of the prestigious Big Ten Conference, the nation’s premier academic and athletic conference, after officially joining the league on July 1, 2014. Known as “The Birthplace of College Football, Rutgers hosted Princeton on Nov. 6, 1869 in the first intercollegiate football game, with RU earning a 6-4 victory.   
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Director of Business and Travel Operations for Finance & Administration. Reporting to the Associate Assistant Director, the position assists in the daily Business Office operation including financial affairs, budget development, outside events reconciliation and contract administration. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Assist Associate Athletic Director for Finance in the development of the annual departmental budget to include expenditure budgets for various sports and support service areas. 
  • Assist in the development of the annual revenue budgets. 
  • Supervisory responsibility of the Senior Program Coordinator and our outsourced travel agents (two). 
  • Oversees the Bank of America and US Bank (per-diem) cards operations of the department, travel reimbursement process, and analytics (travel)data. 
  • Helps to streamline Business Office processes and proactively communicate policy/procedure to sport operations staff.  
  • Ensures that the Athletic Department complies with all University, Department, and NCAA policies and procedures. 
  • Assists with monitoring and analyzing budgets for assigned areas throughout the year with a focus on team/staff travel. 
  • Maintains and manages processes, tools and schedules for budget planning and reporting.
  • Ensures reliability and integrity of budgeting systems for the department. 
  • Establishes and manages deadlines. 
  • Assists in expense forecasting to have an accurate picture of the department’s financial position at the end of the fiscal year. 
  • Assists with the EADA, NCAA and Federal Government reports on an annual basis.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
  • A minimum of five years of experience  in accounting, finance, business administration, sports/travel operations or related field. 

  •  Masters Degree 
  • A minimum of three years of experience in accounting, finance, business administration, sports/travel operations or related field. 
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills and computer literacy. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel. 
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations preferred. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Cornerstone, Oracle Cloud and University Accounting System. 
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • May require working events on nights and weekends.
