Position Summary

The Director provides strategic, financial and operational oversight and leadership for auxiliary services for the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) campuses.

Auxiliary services encompass the following: UNMC/UNO General Supply, UNMC/UNO Surplus Property, UNMC/UNO Mail Services, UNMC/UNO Print Services, UNMC Parking, UNMC Travelsmart, UNMC Cost per Copy program and UNMC Cell Phone program. This position also serves as the liaison with UNO for the UNMC Sorrell Center Convenience Store and UNMC Bookstore.

Serves as the primary financial officer for the auxiliary units which includes developing and implementing a comprehensive plan of fiscal accountability, human resource utilization and ongoing strategic planning to ensure that the auxiliary units remain fiscally sound and business activities run smoothly.

While reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of UNMC, this position ultimately reports up to the Vice Chancellor of UNMC /UNO.

Required Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

General business acumen to include: common sense, good judgement, negotiation skills, financial statement knowledge, including accurate interpretation, and ability to anticipate and forecast needs of auxiliary operations.

Effective written and verbal communication skills. Advanced proficiency in analytic reasoning to formulate budgets and administrative policies and processes.

Understanding regulatory framework and internal controls and the ability to apply them.

Ability to problem solve by critically evaluating alternative courses of action and arriving at solutions that are best for the department and UNMC/UNO.

Exhibit a style of participatory leadership and foster a climate of respect and collegiality to include competency regarding: conflict management, supervision, mentoring and team building.

Working knowledge of related technological resources and software.

Ability to counsel superiors regarding required alternative courses of action.
