Brief Summary of Work for this position:


Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Development Operations, the Director of Advancement Services for Information Systems is responsible for the overall management of the university's alumni and donor CRM database (currently Raisers Edge) and provides leadership and direction for the team responsible for all data-related processes, reporting, training and technology for the University's Advancement division. Providing technical support for all users of the Raiser's Edge Database and other software products used in conjunction with the RE database, the director is required to have a holistic view of advancement services functions (including data management, reporting and gift processing) The Director will build solid working relationships with various members of University Advancement, Finance, and the university at-large to leverage available technologies in support of the university's fundraising efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
Provides management and technical support for the Raiser's Edge database and other software products used in conjunction with the RE database:
  • Assess existing and new technologies for improving and streamlining processes, oversee hardware and software support and purchasing, managing, upgrading and testing the Advancement software solution
  • Develop and implement training curriculum for Raiser's Edge (and other software products, as necessary) to ensure all users are fully leveraging system capabilities
  • Develop tools and procedures to streamline reporting to maximize staff potential and facilitate data-informed decision making and performance analysis
  • Assist the Assistant Vice Chancellor in evaluating division reporting needs, assessing the feasibility, and implementing a reporting environment that will meet the current and future needs of the division and organization
  • Develops procedures (including appropriate timelines) and ensures all data maintenance activities are completed as needed in support of university fundraising, events, and donor activities
  • Manages the reporting and data processing teams
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Development Operations and the Director of Advancement Services for Gift Administration, provides strategy and direction for the Advancement Services team

This position will require a regular onsite presence. The selected candidate will be expected to be onsite full time during the initial onboarding period, after which an appropriate onsite/remote hybrid arrangement may be negotiated. Employees are expected to reside within a reasonable commuting distance (approximately two hours) to be able to report within a practical period based on operational needs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master's degree with 1 year of experience or Bachelors degree with 2 years of experience
  • Equivalent education/experience can be substituted for degree requirements
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience and management of a team

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience :

  • Familiarity with UNCW policies and procedures
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and data visualization software (Power BI or Tableau)
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge, OMatic Softwares, GiveCampus, Banner, AccuData (AlumniFinder) and ObituaryData
  • Ability to interact with a diverse team with competing priorities
  • Query and report writing familiarity
  • Proven ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and prioritize assignments.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of fundraising principals and CRM systems

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:


The Division for University Advancement is responsible for the following primary goals:
  • Coordinate a campus-wide, comprehensive effort to raise philanthropic funds that support the strategic plan and mission of the university.
  • Manage an inclusive alumni engagement program designed to serve and engage nearly 100,000 alumni as ambassadors, advocates and donors.
  • Strengthen and expand UNCW's donor pipeline through effective discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.
  • Ensure that external boards (UNCW Foundation Board, Board of Visitors, Student Aid Association Board, Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Friends of UNCW) are effective in their mission of supporting UNCW.

  • The division's fundraising efforts are enhanced by effective partnerships with the campus community as well as external constituents including alumni, parents, corporations, foundations, volunteers and friends. Development areas include annual giving, leadership annual giving, major gifts, principal gifts, corporate and foundation engagement and planned giving, as well as alumni engagement. Prospect development, events and board management, stewardship, communications and advancement services are support services for the fundraising activities of the division.
