St. Catherine University and our Finance Team invite applications for a Director of Accounting Services and Student Accounts.
Our Business Office is an agile and diverse environment and provides all administrative support for financial matters for the university, including budgeting, financial analysis, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, tax reporting and grant monitoring. This position oversees student accounts and accounting services including billing and collections and compliance. The primary focus of the position is to provide hands-on leadership for institutional funds, oversee billing services, collections, compliance and the efficiency and effectiveness of business processes for the University. Responsibilities include:
  • Lead the evaluation of financial procedures and processes to around student accounts and other accounting services with the goal of achieving smooth and efficient practices that align with other university departments.
  • Lead the student accounts team, creating an environment of respect and collaboration among the team and other departments.
  • Determine departmental goals and objectives and lead the team to achieve those objectives.
  • Obtain all the tuition and fees information each term, reconciling billing, troubleshooting and correcting billing problems to ensure accurate and timely billing of tuition and fees.
  • Collaborate on cross-functional strategic initiatives and provide subject matter expertise and industry best practices related to student, faculty and staff billing and accounts receivable services.
  • Recommend and implement departmental policies and procedures to improve efficiency and receivables.
  • Research and monitor billing trends externally and and recommend solutions or improvements to receivable management, loan and collection activity.
  • Identify and recommend automation opportunities, training needs, projected time lines, resources needed, industry trends specific to student billing and accounts receivable.
  • Align the calendar for student accounts deadlines and activities with other campus office calendars (ie., billing, late fees, holds, collections).
  • Provide analysis of student accounts based on aging and past due accounts. 
  • Collect and review tuition appeals and lead Appeals Committee meetings.
  • Manage accounts receivable, petty cash and payments for faculty and staff. 
  • Maintain detailed procedures, controls, and systems level guidance for all student billing processes.
  • Manage and update the billing system and the billing system interface which includes ensuring coding accuracy.
  • Supervise external audits, regulatory agency reporting and other external reporting.
  • Supervise and participate in all tax compliance for the US and international students.
  • Maintain and direct compliant financial collection and retention practices.
  • Ensure cross-training amongst staff and appropriate training needs are met.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. 
  • FIve (5) years of experience that includes accounting, student billing and/or financial aid experience.
  • Experience leading or supervising others.
  • Experience handling confidential information with discretion.
  • Experience serving internal and external customers with sensitive financial concerns.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA, MBA or other appropriate certification.
  • Experience in development and implementation of budget, policy and procedures.
  • Detail oriented with superior organization skills.
  • Experience with Banner or other highly integrated education software.
  • Experience with Touchnet or similar.
