Job Summary

The Director is a member of the HR Leadership Team and has operational responsibility for the academic employment area of HR, responsible for all Faculty (Tenure-Tenure Track/Non-tenure Track/Faculty Associates), Administrative Professional (AP), and Graduate Assistant Appointments. The Director is the primary HR Leadership contact for all immigration matters.

The Director leads the internal executive recruitment services and is committed to identifying and recruiting outstanding talent exclusively for ISU. Currently these services are extended to all cabinet level positions, all Deans, and all Assistant/Associate Vice President/Provost positions. As these services evolve over time and demand increases from the campus, services may be expanded to Chairs, Directors, and Faculty. The Director will also provide employment support for these executive level positions.

The Director will provide leadership to ensure the academic employment area of HR is a strategic partner with all areas of the University for the purpose of coordinating, integrating and implementing HR services and programs that have an impact on employee recruiting, hiring, retention and separation and their impact on client organizational goals and strategies.

The Director will participate in and oversee the university’s search advocate program, ensuring appropriate training and assessment of volunteer search advocates, marketing of the program to continuously build a network of trained advocates and their placement on search committees, continuously reviewing the success of each search, and remaining educated and well versed in emerging trends in the field.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$122,500 - $132,500 annual


Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor's or equivalent degree in human resources administration, labor relations, business administration, psychology, sociology, communication or a field directly related to human resources administration.

2. Five (5) years of full time (or part time equivalent) work experience performing professional level human resources duties. Three (3) of the five (5) years must have included progressively more responsible work experience in Employment/Recruitment, one or more of which must include providing comprehensive search coordination services (i.e., not post and wait), including things such as sourcing candidates, managing search committee activities, screening and recommending candidates, and pipeline development.

3. Extensive knowledge of federal and state laws, rules and/or regulations affecting public human resource administration; ability to develop an extensive knowledge of those of the employing institution.

4. Demonstrated competence in employee development, team building, and customer service programs, staff management, and exceptional interpersonal skills.

5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications

1. Master's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or related field.

2. Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM- SCP) certification


Work Hours

Core work hours: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.
