Job Summary: 

The Director of NMR facilities is responsible for maintaining and operating the University's high-field NMR instruments with responsibility for training faculty, postdoctoral associates, and graduate students in the routine usage of the University NMR Spectrometers. Uses existing software written programs and helps write new programs in support of modern NMR techniques to solve structural problems. Contributes to grant proposals for maintenance and upgrading of these facilities. The Director is also expected to contribute to coordinating the upper-level Chemistry lab facility.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions of Position:

  •        Maintenance and operation of the University's high field NMR instruments.

  •            Trains faculty, Postdoctoral Associates, and graduate students in the routine use of the NMR Spectrometers.

  •        Uses existing software written programs and help write new programs in support of modern NMR techniques to solve structural problem.

  •        Contributes to grant proposals for maintenance and upgrading of these facilities.

  •        Contributes to the coordination of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy to support research in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Materials Science and Biology.

  •        Coordinates the use of NMR Spectroscopy in the teaching of undergraduate courses within the college.

  •        Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education & Experience:

Masters in relevant curriculum (Ph.D. preferred), plus at least 3 years directly related demonstrated significant exposure (routine/non-routine maintenance) and responsibilities associated with NMR equipment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to develop creative and innovative solutions to financial, budget and program management issues.

  • Ability to adapt to constantly changing environment. 

  • Ability to make presentations to small and large audiences.

  • Strong administrative and project management skills.

  • Must be organized, detail oriented, and able to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Strong supervisory skills and ability to monitor the work of others, provide feedback and manage performance.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, along with the ability to work with a diverse population of faculty and staff. 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 

  •              Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
