Job Description:

SUMMARY:

The Director of Multimedia Storytelling is responsible for the creation and innovative application of high-impact, high-quality video, audio, and other multimedia to advance the University's overall communications and marketing efforts. This newly established position reflects a heightened emphasis on multimedia to capture and convey the Clark experience, including with the accomplishments of the University's human talent and the University's significant impact across the world. The Director partners with the Senior Creative Director, University Photographer, and other MarComm team members to drive content creation that attracts and engages a diverse audience, builds thought leadership, effectively deepens affinity to Clark University, and strengthens community cohesion around the University brand to achieve significant institutional goals including increased admission applications and yield, increased student engagement and retention, enhanced alumni giving and involvement, and strong staff and faculty morale.

Serving as a creative thought leader, strategist, producer, and hands-on technician, the Director of Multimedia Storytelling ensures that well-planned and meaningful multimedia experiences are an organic part of and at the forefront of the Office of Marketing and Communications' efforts.

The Director of Multimedia Storytelling is also responsible for aiding in the continued development of the University's Digital Asset Management (DAM) system to store and make easily accessible all multimedia assets created in-house and by external or freelance partners. The Director will develop best practices around using the DAM system effectively and help to drive university-wide adoption.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Produce and coordinate videos, photoshoots, digital graphics, podcasts, infographics, animations, slide presentations, and other multimedia content that is fresh, compelling, and inspires our core audiences to engage and act.
  • Work closely with the Senior Creative Director and the MarComm team to develop Clark's institutional voice and brand, reflecting a strong understanding of the importance of brand identity and the use of multi-channel content to achieve cohesive brand voice.
  • Serve as MarComm's in-house videographer and as necessary photographer, as well as technical lead in the use of teleprompter, lighting, sound equipment and other production tools in support of presentations, events, and other campus projects to ensure that University digital products and programs have consistently high production values and provide a high-quality user experience.
  • Elevate the quality and variety of multimedia content through identifying high impact stories, mediums, and distribution methods and the ability to deliver a range of video styles and formats to best serve the individual project's goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrate conceptual thinking and creative problem solving to pitch, prepare, and present cohesive, creative concepts to support a variety of internal and external communications and marketing campaigns through effective storyboarding and other ideation processes.
  • Stay abreast of emerging creative platforms, digital design trends and technologies, and ways to implement those through professional development and training.
  • Coordinate documentation and storytelling of major events or projects, traveling or directing vendors to gather content in-person as needed.
  • Coordinate use and maintenance of multimedia equipment and media studio. Research and recommend equipment and software updates based on industry best practices
  • Ensure timelines and deliverables are well-coordinated across departments and on time.
  • Serve as direct supervisor for the University Photographer and create a culture that nurtures, inspires, and delivers artistic, high-quality photographic assets.


Requirements:

REQUIRED:

At least five years of experience in conceptualizing and executing high-quality multimedia assets in various formats, including video, photography, animation, and audio.

A portfolio of creative output that shows relevance to and understanding of the specific challenges and opportunities we face at Clark.

Technical skill in all aspects of video production including editing, shooting, pre- and post-production.

Strong skill in planning and executing integrated communications projects.

Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills and a collegial, can-do spirit.

Undergraduate degree in related field.

PREFERRED:

Motion graphics capability.

Photography skills.

Experience managing a complex digital asset management system.
