Job Description Summary

The role will be responsible for generating new student programming, infusing research-based content into existing programming that builds awareness of how to successfully lead heterogenous teams and organizations. Liaising with the many touchpoints inside the School and University to gather information, the Director will contribute to initiatives in the Penn ecosystem creating effective partnerships to support the instruction of students set to lead in complex, multicultural work environments. Preparing students to work effectively with the wide range of perspectives and social identities represented in today’s workforce is core to this work. Using the body of existing and developing research on the range of individual and team-based workplace issues, the Director will enrich classroom experiences and extend leadership development opportunities for Wharton student audiences to out-of-the-classroom programs. These goals will necessarily involve interaction with faculty, thought leaders, practitioners, and institutions outside of Penn, and the primary audiences for those galvanized resources will be the full-time Wharton student audiences. The goal of this work is to better prepare all Wharton students to lead and manage teams and organizations in today’s global environment.

Job Responsibilities

More specifically, the Director will report to the Senior Director, McNulty Leadership Program, and oversee the portfolio of projects supporting MLP’s strategic priorities. The person in this role serves as a program creator, internal content expert, network developer and advocate. The work under that priority includes:

(1) Creating evidence-based, student-facing programs on issues of leading heterogenous, global groups and teams

(2) Supporting the integration of related content into MLP’s existing programs

(3) Supporting the School’s research agenda and translating that research into leadership-related content

(4) Developing networks to create partnerships for program design and delivery

(5) Organizing convenings, conferences, and other educational events for students, faculty, and practitioners

Qualifications

Required: Master’s Degree, and 5-10 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required. Must have strong project management experience, relational skills, demonstrated facilitation skills, and student support experience.  Must possess excellent business writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

Preferred:

  • Fluency with a range of individual and team-based workplace issues
  • Experience holding a staff position focused on/or including leadership content development
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience conceptualizing and creating programming for participants at a comparable scale to MLP full time student footprint
  • Experience working effectively with key stakeholder groups including senior organizational leaders, content experts and donors  
  • Comfort with ambiguity
  • Intrapreneurial spirit and ability
  • Desire for teamwork and partnership in creating work products
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills
