DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The College of Nursing at Washington State University Tri-Cities (WSU Tri-Cities) invites applications for a full-time career-track faculty position with a 12-month administrative appointment.  Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop a new program in social work at the master’s level (MSW) which includes the creation of materials required for the accreditation process through the Council on Social Work Education. Applicants are also expected to teach courses and engage in on-going work related to the impact of social and economic inequities on under served communities.

The Director of the MSW is expected to initiate and contribute to all accreditation requirements from CSWE, as well as assisting with the new degree proposal process at the university.  Applications from candidates with demonstrated expertise are encouraged. The successful candidate will be expected to provide outstanding teaching at the graduate level, actively engage in clinical scholarship, contribute to professional and University service, and participate broadly in the social work curriculum.

The position is located on the Washington State University Tri-Cities campus in Richland, WA.  The successful candidate is anticipated to begin the appointment on August 1, 2024, and is negotiable.

RANK:

This is a full time, continuous, career-track faculty appointment with a fixed-term administrative role. The initial appointment for the administrative role is one year. Please note that all faculty positions with administrative roles are fixed term and renewable as outlined in the Faculty Manual .

This appointment will be hired at the Clinical Assistant, Associate or Full Professor Rank in Social Work, commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Initiate the accreditation process and pre-candidacy requirements from CSWE.

  • Lead the new degree proposal following the university process.

  • Develop and teach graduate courses in social work.

  • Advise and mentor graduate students.

  • Contribute to advancing social work education and research.

  • Participate in service to the department, college and/or university through committee work, recruitment, and interaction with local and regional stakeholders.

  • Advance the college's commitment to diversity and multiculturalism among its faculty, staff, students through research, teaching, and community outreach with relevant programs, goals, and activities.

  • Collaborate closely with other appropriate faculty throughout WSU, including but not limited to colleagues with interest and expertise in the applicant’s research areas.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS for all ranks:

  • Hold a PhD or DSW from a CSWE accredited institution.

  • Be licensed as a clinical social worker in Washington or other state at time of hire. Must obtain Washington State LICSW credential within twelve (12) months of hire.  

    • If not credentialed in the state of Washington as a LICSW at time of hire, must meet the Washington Department of Health requirements for licensure as LICSW* at time of hire and obtain a probationary LICSW license, based on state reciprocity, within 3 months of start date.   

*As of May 2024, WA LICSW requirements include 3,000 hours of postgraduate, supervised experience over a minimum two-year period, 100 hours supervision, including 60 hours 1:1 supervision, 1000 direct client hours, and passing the American Association of State Social Work Board's (ASWB) Clinical Exam .

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in progressive leadership roles, including two years of academic leadership and exhibited strength in both scholarship and teaching.

  • A minimum of two years of full-time post-MSW/Master’s practice experience for all applicants is required.

  • Demonstrated service experience on campus, in professional organizations, agencies or in their communities.

  • Excellent communication abilities in written and verbal forms.

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS for Clinical Associate Professor Rank:

  • Currently serving in the rank of an Associate Professor or equivalent at a post-secondary institution, or;

  • At least four (4) years of academic teaching experience as well as academic and professional service.; and at least three (3) years of clinical scholarship including refereed publications, presentation at national conferences, and/or contribution to professional guideline development.

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS for Clinical Professor Rank:

  • Currently serving in the rank of a Full Professor or equivalent at a post-secondary institution, or;

  • At least five (5) years history of clinical scholarship, including national and/or international publications, funded clinical projects and/or research; and held leadership positions in national and/or international professional organizations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL CANDIDATES:

  • Education experience, including the use of multiple digital or technology-supported teaching/learning platforms and mechanisms.

  • Expertise in accreditation processes within social work.

  • Demonstrated experience managing graduate social work programs.

  • Leading programs that are delivered to students across multiple campuses with necessity to consider regulations and requirements in bordering states.

  • Leading Social Work programs at a research-intensive, health sciences center.

  • Leading Social Work programs that are embedded in colleges with active faculty practices.

  • Familiarity and experience in social work offered in rural Washington state.

  • Experience teaching in programs delivered to students across multiple settings with an obligation to consider regulations and requirements in bordering states.

Successful candidates will reflect the teacher-scholar model with demonstrated passion for teaching and enthusiasm for research that involves undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates will also have an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in health sciences across the WSU system.

Annual Salary:

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The annual 12-month salary includes a 9-month faculty salary and a stipend for the administrative duties (ADR) of the Director role.

  • Assistant Professor: $77,388 9-mo faculty salary + $35,000 ADR = $112,388 annual salary

  • Associate Professor: $87,125 9-mo faculty salary + $35,000 ADR = $122,125  annual salary

  • Full Professor: $94,300 9-mo faculty salary  + $35,000 ADR = $129,300 annual salary

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
